Years back I had a favorite fishing spot. To get there you had to park a couple miles away and hike to the spot. In doing so you had to cross a dam that was spanned by shaky 2x10 boards with no handholds. Walking across was a challenge when carrying fishing gear and looking down at all the water rushing over the dam. Once you made it over the dam you had to go down about 100 steps then jump two, 6 foot high fences topped with barbed wire. Yeah, we were not really supposed to be there. The perch fishing was outstanding with an occasional bass thrown in for good measure.

The following year when I went there was a walkway over the dam with handrails. The rest was the same but the fishing not near as good.

The following year both fences were removed. The fish apparently were removed as well because I caught nothing.

I never went back.

When I lived in New England I used to study the topo maps and find small streams that no one fished. It took some doing to get back to these but the native trout I caught made it worth while. Occasionally I'd find a stream that the beavers had dammed up making a pond and then the fun really began.

Yeah, it really bummed me out. I was elated to be able to cross the dam with no worries. When the took both fences down I think I may have given another sigh of relief. When I didn't catch anything I just couldn't believe it. I even tried fishing above and below the dam with no luck at all.
