With the nut jobs running amuck, the Washington Redskins won't be the only sports team facing a backlash. Sooner or later they are coming after you. Teams with Native American names could be in trouble. Braves, Indians and certainly the Chiefs because a chief is the supreme authority over his people…’The Man’.

With more Americans than ever becoming fat, teams calling themselves Giants need to reconsider. The name is insensitive and derogatory to those who are ‘victims’ of obesity.

You fans in New England, the name Patriots is not acceptable. Patriots love their country, the constitution and stand up for the flag. I’m surprised they haven’t come for you already.

The outcry and protests over actual and alleged abuses by some in law enforcement must make you Texas Rangers uneasy. Who wants to read that the Rangers beat the Yankees.

Pirates, Raiders, Buccaneers and Vikings, take heed. These were cruel and violent people who invaded, plundered and killed. Not a shining example for our children. You Indianapolis Colts have a problem too. The name Colt connotes guns. We definitely don’t want our children exposed to that.

Angels, Saints and Padres, you guys might want to seek new names. Instances of abuse by church clergy make these names questionable. Also, the nut jobs abhor anything religion.

Chicago White Sox, your name is self-explanatory. The name has got to go boys. Cincinnati Reds and Boston Red Sox, you guys are exempt.

You folks living in Oregon might want to consider changing the name of the Oregon State women’s team to something other than “the Beavers”, especially when you play Southern California. Do we really want the Trojans sticking it to the Beavers?

I am also have trouble digesting what may be happening here. I can see "Redskins" being changed because it is a slur, but "Chiefs", "Indians" and "Braves" certainly are not.

I can't see any reason to change "Indians" unless they are also going to change "Cowboys", but it depends on which side of the political divide you are are on if the name Syracuse "Orangemen" is insulting or not! :D

Reds ? You mean like the followers of Karl ?
The Bengals ? Tigers aren't native to America.
The Jets ? You mean as in West Side Story ?
The Blackhawks ? No, they'll be wrangling over whether it refers to the Indian chief, the bird-or the comic book.

That's nothing! You go into a restaurant nowadays and tell the maitre d' that you have reservations and are promptly corrected, with him replying, "I'm sorry. We don't use that word here in order not to offend our native American clientele."

You apologize and then proceed to ask, "How many more minutes..." and are interrupted with him saying, "We don't use that word either for the same reason.":p

You gotta love these crazy times. I mean the idiotic things these people are coming up with is free comedy relief, if you ask me.:D

I'm guessing most of you are not Native American. I'm not either, But if I was....

I wouldn't be too happy about that kind of **** either.

Actually, I always wondered why that had not raised the ire of the Catholic Irish and maybe resulted in a little bomb or two by the US branch of the IRA. The Irish tend to be touchy about such things ... ;)

Redskins

The "Redskin" name for a certain variety of potatoes is doomed. Good riddance. It's such an insensitive name which has always offended me.

Turq I'm not directing this at you, personally, but I'm so tired of people being offended by everything.

I'm half Indian or Native American whatever the PC term is. I'm not offended. Why would I? They are celebrating the warrior mentality.

Here's a European (Belgian) Football club insignia:

Should they drop their insignia, too?

How about this B-1 Lancer squadron:

Is that offensive? If so, who, exactly, is being offended?

All the non thinkers wanting name changes are going to wipe out the legacy and history of positive note.
Is the naming of a city of a Native American bad? What’s bad about Peoria or Tiskilwa? Absolutely nothing.
If these children get their way probably half of all names in Illinois would be changed.
What a bunch of fools.

I have a relative who is Indian and has been protesting celebrations of the Spanish heritage, and statues that have been going on in New Mexico for generations. I had seen her on the local news crying about the celebration in Santa Fe, The Entrada, during the Fiestas de Santa Fe. It's basically, Diego de Vargas Bloodless reconquest of NM.

I asked her if she was so offended by what the Spanish did centuries ago, why she didn't change her name - it's a Spanish name and surname. I then asked her why she took the surname of Cortéz, named after Conquistador Hernán Cortéz, who pretty much destroyed the Aztecs, when she married. I got no response other than a glaring look. I guess she's not that serious...

Wusses and Powder Puffs seems to be fine choices for the teams...
