For the last several months I have been selling off parts of my S&W collection, taking the money and reinvesting in class 3 stuff.

Before I went too far, I traded one of my 629's for a 629 that fellow member jt1 owned. This 4 inch 629-1 was his, and it's a beauty. I just finished tuning it up and now it's ready for work guarding the house with specials.

Here is my last surviving 629 that goes back many years with me. A 629-1 with a 8 3/8 barrel.

Now, the pair of stainless guns.

I'm done trading S&W revolvers, down to 8 from nearly 20 a few years ago.

Edited to fix my pictures. These look somewhat better. OOPS the 4" is loaded....

Both are very sweet peices. As the others have said, I wouldn't let them go.

I own a 6.5" 629-5 and haven't handled any with 8 3/8" barrels. Do all 8 3/8" barrels have the scope base cut outs on the barrel like yours in the picture?

I have a 629 no dash and it doesn't have the scope mount cut outs and it's also pinned and recessed.

Scope rings?

Hey 500 Mag Nut
I hope you still have the scope rings for the 8 3/8" 629? Those rings are no longer made and are hard to find!.. They were made by Millet and they look like their Angle-Loc design but the ones for the 629 are different! The run of almost 5000 guns with the dove tails for the rings were made in 1989.

Yes I do, still wraped in plastic. I figured when I got older and needed glasses (I DO NOW) I could then mount a scope on top.

It's funny how fast time slips away....

Also, I loaded them pics on my laptop late last night and sitting on the home PC I notice the pics are blurry. I got to redo them pics......

fyimo, I sure like your no dash, that's a beauty!

No that was a rare run of integrated scope mounts made into the barrels around 1989 I believe. (like jcelect says)
Some said that when using the rings, they tend to loosen up but I really don't know as I never tried them out. The 1" rings are real hard to find, they look like this up close.

Nice revolvers. Keepers both.:)

You know, you never see many 4 inch 629's even here on a S&W forum.
I wonder if there was just not many made in comparison to 6 (or 6 & 1/2 inch) and 8 & 3/8ths guns.

I have a 4 inch 629-3, bought it three years ago. I haven't seen one for sale since.

I don't see that many 4 inchers either, maybe back then they were more a hunters gun or to be cool like the Dirty Harry movies, they were all long barreled.

I had a RD Butt 4 incher but I could never warm to the RD butt frame. Sure I know of the conversion grip, but I don't like the look of them.

So I decided to try to trade it and by golly I got a good one from another member here on this site.

The gun sits 15' from me, on a shelf, with a spare speed loader and mag light at the ready. Just like it's brother did. I like N frames!

My 29-2 with the 6 1/2 barrel gives me that sized gun, to give me the flexability when I what to shoot them.

I don't push these old guns any longer, light magnums or specials that's good enough for me.

Bob, you've got that 4" 629-1 shined up and looking great!!!! I have no doubt it's in great hands.

The 629-4 Bob traded to he is a beauty also. He likes square butts and I prefer round ones, so it worked out great.

I figured if I posted a picture, you would eventually see your old gun. :D

I'm happy with the piece. Now that the snow is melting, it's soon going to be time to shoot some groups. Thanks again John for everything!
