My last gun I'll ever buy... that's it.

Soon to be 60 as well and being fortunate to find deals on interesting guns, there are few that cause the wallet to come out. I find myself questioning the need or want a lot more than I did in the past. The continuing rise in prices and being a retired educator also plays into the debate. I seem to focus more on reloading to shoot the ones I have. That being said I don't feel I have bought my last one yet, the granddaughters now want to hunt so have to find those needs.
 
Since I made the decision to start thinning the herd last year, I've sold two guns. And purchased three. Poorly executed plan.

I am, however, really running out of things I want. 3" 13, 65. Maybe a 10mm Smith. I think I'm good on long guns. Maybe an AR to hang out with the cool kids. In case my GF dumps me and I can't use hers anymore!
 
Never say "never", but the 3" 19 is the girl of my dreams. They always end up goin' steady with men who have more money.
Like Iggy, I'll be thinning the herd, but will most likely buy more S&Ws afterwards.
 
At 62 I've accumulated a lot of "stuff" as George Carlin called it ...... being married and living in the same house for 24 years hasn't helped...

Guns...long and short...... knifes ....ammo and gear...

Some I accumulated to pass on to my two sons.........but a lot was from deals just too good to pass up over the years........like a third 3" 66 for $325 in about 2006.........or a lnib CZ 527 in .223 for $350........ or my Reg Magnum for less than $350 OTD in 2008 or so.

But to be honest I've got too much "stuff"
 
Last gun search

This has been my holy grail search for several years. An original 1936 ( pre German occupation) Polish VIS35 pistol. Rare and expensive. Last one sold on the auction sight went for $3500. So I guess I'll print out a photo and paste it up in my gun cabinet;):):)

 
I'm 61 and only started really collecting over the last few years. That said, all of mine save a couple, have been fired and are not high end collectibles. Mostly I buy things that strike me when I find them at good prices. I am thinking now about starting to sell some of the lesser pieces to fund purchases of better ones. I have also passed up some great deals lately and am thinking about buying and flipping those kinds of pieces. Again, to fund higher end pieces.

For me the ones I'd love to have that I don't ever see getting, simply because I won't pay what they'd cost to acquire.

I'm still looking. The hunt is the real fun to me. But I have gotten to the point where I don't see much sense in having a bunch of stuff that never gets shot. So I've sold off all but a few in calibers I already load for. The ones I've got are all guns I REALLY like, and only one of each. I no longer have them piled on top of one another in the safe.

If I see something else I want, I'll have to sell one I've got to justify it (in my mind).

I've had so many over the years, I really can't think of one I've never owned that I'd like to have. A Registered Magnum has never even been on my radar...out of my league. Maybe a Colt SAA, but it's not a burning desire. Maybe a Browning Hi-Power...a real Browning...I've owned a couple of clones.
 
I'm 69 but never became interested in "old" guns. In the early 1970s, my maternal grandfather left me several valuable guns like a J.P. Sauer & Sons drilling, numerous Parker side-by-sides and others. I traded them to a wholesale distributor friend for new Remington rifles and S&W revolvers, a group which formed the beginning of my collection.

I've now accumulated something in the area of 62 firearms, mostly Remington Model 700s and pre-MIM, pre-IL S&Ws. Mixed in are some T/C Contenders, three S&W 1911s, an XP-100R and a few muzzleoaders, all T/Cs. Rifle calibers range from 22LR to .338 RUM with almost everything in between while handguns are in 22LR, .38 Special, .38 Super, .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum and .45 ACP. I think I'm done but a few remain on a wish list.

One I'd like to have but don't expect to own is a 5" or 5.5" 627-0. Nice ones are just bringing more than I want to spend for a ninth .357 and I can't bring myself to part with one of my 66s or 686s to cover some of the cost.

While I don't have any use for ARs - they aren't legal for hunting in Pennsylvania and seeing how quickly a magazine can be emptied doesn't appeal to me - I have a hot nut for a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. Ruger's media relations rep is supposed to be shipping a version 2.0 to me soon and I fully expect to buy it upon completion of my review.

The other gun I'd like to own will likely be something of a head-scratcher but a Ruger 77/22, model 7002, is on my radar. About a year ago, my wife of 44 years expressed a desire to try shooting with me. I started her with my S&W 22A-1 and 4" no-dash 617 before buying her a left-hand Savage Mark II and most recently, a left-hand Ruger 77 Hawkeye in .223 REM so she can shoot on the 100-yard range with me (nice left-hand guns are really few in number). But she dislikes the barrel-cooling periods following each five rounds fired so the 22s appeal to her more. I have a Remington 541-T with a highly-figured stock made for me in Remington's Custom Shop but prefer not to risk damaging it, thus the desire for the Model 77/22.

That's about it. Life has been good and I have enough guns, according to my wife. Besides, there is only room in my safe for two more long guns.

Check out CZs line of bolt action .22s....... Models 452,453 (SST) and the newer 455s..........most think they outshoot the Rugers out of the box.....and they sell for $200-300 less.

MY 452FS/mannlicher in .22mag shoots MOA at 100yds...... my smallest groups are in the .85-.9range and with a small Leupold 1-4x20 I'm doing 1-1.5 inch (under the cross hairs) groups all day

My .22lrs do one hole groups (.3-.4) at 50yds all day.................

Some CZs have very good to great wood.......
 
I never collected per se. I find something I like and might buy a couple of the same, or variants, for shooting. I seem to go into buying fits, which are usually precipitated by selling fits. You get on the classifieds to sell your item, then see something you like, or someone offers you a trade and off you go...

Tastes change, but I've sold a few that I'd like to have back. The forums should all be paid for and supported by firearms manufacturers, because I believe they drive folks to buy. This forum got me onto the 3rd generations, when S&W had turned me off their semi-autos with the 659. I was drooling to buy a 659, as my first handgun, then had a chance to shoot one. I was unimpressed with the trigger and left their autos behind for decades. Perhaps a poor decision, but it shows you how important first impressions can be.

I mostly look for rimfire now. The "prefect" self defense gun for my wife. The Shield is ok, but I'm still looking. Bought a Sig P239 here to try out.

I need some left handed guns for my daughter. She's not picky, but I like wood, etc.

I'm selling off most of what I do't use and don't anticipate the family will use.
 
At 64, I'm not done yet. I have a sweet little nickel S&W Model 37 from 1982 that I'm thinking about taking to the gun show this weekend 'cause I just can't shoot it with the little bitty shiny sights. I'll be looking for a 2 inch Model 64 or another Model 642...
 
That my friends is the other question... who to leave them all to. Mine go to my son who is 22 at this time.
If my Dad had left for me these or some guns of the ones I have, at 22 years would I hold them as precious as he did? I searched long time for some of them, and others were in the glass case the same time I was not looking for them. So knowing the real and imagined value I bought them.

Every gun I have, even my first one S&W M-19 to my 'last one' is very special to me. But will it be with my Son that all of them are special? Probably not. I have told him that some time in the future that most or all of them including the ammo might not be available or lawful to have.

My Dad had this old single shot 22 LR junk rifle that I have no idea what happened to it but man do I wish I had it now. Because it was his. That is what I am hoping my son will feel about most of them after I am gone.

I don't know what he'll think about my great .44 mags... all four of them or the six 686's pre-lock guns that have value to me knowing S&W will not make them again. My boys future son's or daughters how will they look at them?

So all that money spent on them over the years is some what in question as to their value to the next caretakers in the family.

That is partly why that is the last gun I will buy.

I've owned several Colt revolvers over the last 46 years, including a Python. I've never been that fond of Colts. While the Python is possibly one of the best looking revolvers, it's certainly not the best design. My favorite of the Colts was one that I shot competitively, back in the late 70's, early 80's, a Mk-III Trooper. But I think Colt's firearms have always been overrated, and today, certainly overpriced.

I'm 66 years old, and will be leaving my son, four Smith & Wesson revolvers, no Colts. I don't think he'll complain. :)

That's what I always say too, that is until I find the next gun I like and buy it! ;)

For me, my next two purchases, a 1970's vintage Browning Hi-Power and and an original configured Colt AR. :cool:

Those will be my last guns! :cool: ,,,,,Yeah right! :rolleyes:

I suffered a concussion and heart attack in January which made me want to thin the herd which I did and I said "no more guns" Well with having over a hundred guns a bunch went but I still had a pile...but I too am weak so this is what has followed me home recently...




+ a 629-6, another SIG pistol like the one in the pic is 300 BLK w/9" barrel this one 11 " in 5.56...so much for no more guns!
 
I haven't owned a long gun in decades and long-ago said, "I'll never buy another rifle."

Three weeks ago a friend asked if I knew anything about a Ruger .22 rifle.

I asked, "ten twenty-two."

"Yes."

"Enough to be dangerous," I said.

Somebody had left one at his home several years ago. He didn't remember who. He asked his son, but it wasn't him. He wanted to sell it and wondered if I had any ideas. We arranged to meet at his place so I could give him an idea of how much he could get and where to find a buyer.

I did some research and came up with a price he should expect. It was the dirtiest gun I've ever seen, even a huge cobweb among the other dirt where the magazine should be. I suggested if he cleaned it up and got a mag (he didn't have it) he might get as much as $200 for it.

"I don't want to mess with it. Heck, I'd be happy with $75," he said.

I ordered a $15.49 magazine, including shipping, off of the online flea market, spent a few hours disassembling, cleaning, and assembling, and now I have the rifle I said I'd never own. Oh, by the way, it's absolutely gorgeous -- beautiful wood and the finish is nearly factory perfect (made in 1999 or 2000).

You just never know what will come your way.

And a darn good question and it better be spelled out in writing and preferably notarized or something legally binding. I knew a gal down in Texas some years ago who was buying a home down there after her divorce up North and she was telling me the long hangup on the sale because the old couple that had lived there and died their children where fighting each over over the furnishings.

She said the neighbors had told her them kids never even visited the last 10 + years when they where alive but as soon as they died they where as thick as vultures.

I myself have no family and I plan on shooting the snot out of 'ole BIG Hoss before the time and all I'll have to leave is some smelly socks and underwear as I have no major assets and whatever junk I do have the my State is more than welcome to it provided of course whoever finds me dead doesn't steal what there is first. :)
 
NEVER THE LAST ONE...

I had the luxury of having a seizure and died this past May at the age of 49, a reaction to medications taken post cancer surgery... I got better... once the Meds got sorted out I have been doing much better during my second round of Chemo... it has not stopped me from buying more "stuff"... since then I have purchased my late uncles Rem 1100 shotgun... a Sig 716... a Ruger MKII competion... and a Phoenix HP22... nope never the last one...
 
My next...I'll not buy any more...purchase will be Kahr, CW380. I do not have a pocket pistol. I go from a M&P, Shield 9mm to a NAA, .22MAG revolver. Any input on my selection?

Pushing 72 and have not found a way to "stop the bug" yet...to many good ones still out there!

I started collecting Colts some years ago....found that most didn't fit my hand as well as Smiths so, like others, sold, traded or whatever to get more of what I like to collect and shoot.

Colts (& others) gone from the safe: Unfired Python 6" blue, 1943 1911A1, unfired NIB .22 OMM, .38 OMM, Remington Rand 1944 1911A1, 41 byf Black Widow Luger.

Colts remaining (probably available soon on the FS/FT forum): 1903 Hammerless, .25 ACP in box, Gettysburg Frontier Scout unfired, in box, Woodsman in box with accessories.

Long guns: M1 Garand with FullerPlast stock & NM conditioned, Remington 1903A3, Ithaca M37 "Heavy Duck" 12 ga. and an Springfield Armory M1A (civie M14) unfired, NIB taken on a trade, Enfield 303.

Can't get rid of the long guns cause it is still too much fun to ring that 200 yd gong. Maybe when I can't any longer assume the prone then we will see........but for now........no "last gun" for me, only more Smiths, less Colts, keep on gong ringin.

I was going to say a Registered Magnum...but a friend pointed out that I could probably sell half a dozen of my duplicates, and get one. My be all, end all would be a real 1918 BAR.
