My LGS called today and said that my Shield came in, I cancelled it.

Since we mostly hear the negative on the web, here's another good report on the Shield 40. While the mag drop reports were concerning, my gun has approx 350 rounds with no drops. It is accurate, reliable, and very shootable for such a small powerhouse. The pistol packs a punch and carries like a dream.

This reminds me of the "canted barrel" threads over on the revolver forums. Does it happen? Sure. Is there even ONE example where S&W customer service did NOT fix the problem? No. Not one.

So, yea, I wouldn't worry too much about any of that.

Have north of 1000 rnds thru my Shield 9 now, one of the first to hit the market in April, performs flawlessly. Wish I knew which gun store you dealt with, I'd like to buy "your" Shield40. I'm on 3 different wait lists, won't refuse mine when it come in, can't wait to get it.

And I CAN"T seem to buy any of these defective S&W's including a Sigma. Smith must really go over the ones they send to Montana......

Not to mention dinner for all of the hangers-on whiny relatives that you never see except when it is time to get a Christmas present. :)

That's the problem right there....stop feeding them and they won't hang on! ;)

On a serious note: I too agree that it is unfair to S&W in general and to the Shield line specifically to label them "junk." As others have pointed out, you can find negative reviews on any product made by man. There does seem to be a problem with SOME Shield .40s and magazine drop, but that doesn't mean that they ALL have this problem...or that ever a large percentage of them do. S&W will fix it if there is a problem (look at what is going on with Glocks right now, and be thankful for S&W!)

It's your money, and you should buy what you like when you like. However, until you have had personal experience with the gun, it's unfair of you to trash it. I don't worry about buying a new S&W because I know that if there is a problem, S&W will fix it...and unlike some other manufacturers, S&W pays for shipping both ways.

DON'T FEED THE TROLLS! LOL....

This joker is full of it and just trying to get your blood pressure up. You guys fell for it. :D

There's an old saying that applies to the OP! "Better to be thought of a fool than to open one's mouth and leave absolutely no doubt"

I've never owned a semi-auto, nor intend to, but I've heard nothing but praise for the Shield, as well as the M&P9c. This praise comes, not from screaming groupies, but from serious gun owners who know a good product when they find one. I suspect Mr. OP is here merely to stir the pot.

OUCH, That's kind of harsh. So far folks in this country are permitted to have a change of mind and voice an opinion.....isn't that what a forum is for? I also passed on the .40cal. that I waited for , but grabbed the first Shield 9mm I could get my hands on.

After reading all the problems with the 40 cal shield, I decided that I would not fall victim to a bad design. So when the LGS called today and said my Shield had came in I passed on it and told them to sell it to the next guy (sucker) on the list.
The LGS informed me that I was the 6th person that they had called and the others had passed also. S&W has really tarnished their name with this fluke, I am on the 9mm wait list also, however I am thinking now of waiting and maybe get one when the 2nd gens come out. Until then I am shopping for another manufacturer for a small pistol.
S&W please do better in the QC department.
By the way I own a few FS M&P's and love them.
God I love the internet.Believe about 1/4 what you read:rolleyes:

My lgs has a .40 shield in stock, thinking about picking it up tonight. I have the 40c with about 2500 rounds, no problems. I have shot the shield at a demo and I like the way it fits my hands. The recoil was minimal compared to what I expected from such a small gun and it seemed accurate for me. I only got to shoot 2 mags.

Pick up the .40. Add another $100 to it and u can buy a 9mm barrel and a 9mm mag. Now you have 2 guns for the price of one and some change. You can't go wrong grabbing the .40 (IMO)

If you go back and look at my previous post here at SW fourm you will see I am not a troll.

so you have no first hand knowledge about a product and you go on the internet and call it junk. let me ask you do you walk everywhere you go because applying your logical thinking to vehicles you havent bought any vehicle in years since i can find people trashing every brand out there.

To the person that said I called the Shield "Junk", can you show me that word in my original post?
I know of 4 people with shields, they are people I met at the shooting range.
3 people own 9mm shields and they are happy, One owns a 40 shield and it has been sent back to S&W for the mag drop problem.

Its America and if I past up a 40 shield that is known to have problems its my business,
I'm just sharing my thoughts here, sorry if I stepped on some toes.

If you heard of a car that had problems would you trust your life and family members with it? Only an idiot would buy a car and put his wife and kids in a car that is known to have problems. Let S&W iron out the kinks and then I may reconsider, I'm not their guinea pig.

My self defense guns must be 100% reliable and I must have confidence in them,
I would not be confident with the 40 shield.

God I love the internet.Believe about 1/4 what you read:rolleyes:

I try to research things before I buy them, the internet does provide a wealth of info, Some may be biased, some may be wrong, but when you read complaint after complaint, then you know to stay away from that product.

That was me, and no, I cannot. I evidently misread, or my "senior moments" kicked in while I was typing. :o

In any case, I apologize for quoting you in error. You did NOT label the Shield as "junk."

You're correct that you can take whatever position you want on the .40 Shield...the only consistent argument here is that you based your decision on internet chatter and hearsay...not personal experience and then judged S&W in general as a bad company. You can see by the number of owners who have come to the .40's defense that the mag drop problem is not as common as the blogs would lead you to believe.

I hope you find a gun you like...but it won't be better than a Shield!;)

Im in a hurry to do something, so I will keep this brief
I own many S&W's and I like them all that I own now, I have had some S&W turds in the past.
I only know a few people that own shields (3 9mm owners, and 1 40S&W owner). Its not all internet gossip.
Also look here on this fourm and you will see complaint and complaint about the 40, are they all making this story up about the mag drop?
The 9mm's seems fine, the 40 has problems.
I guess I should of stated in my OP that I did know of one 40 owner and he had problems.
