My M&P milled for RDS

I sent my M&P 2.0 to CHPWS in Richmond Hill, GA to have it milled for a Holosun 507C RDS. It came back done perfectly. I had sent the RDS in with the slide and they mounted the RDS. I had them also install new front and rear iron sights. Sort of required if you want to retain iron sights. They kept me informed as to receipt, progress, and when shipped. Was a toss-up as to selling the pistol and buying a pistol already set up to add a RDS.

I've got one of their plates and they do great work. Thanks for the info, I'm considering sending in a Shield.

Did they refinish the cut for you and how did that turn out?

I had the standard black coating put on the cuts. Can't see any area under the red dot itself, but under rear sight looks fine.

In my opinion, going the route of having the slide milled is far superior to using any OEM optics mounting system that involves adaptor plates, especially if plastic plates are involved.

Specifically with M&P optics ready guns, the plastic plates can shift and move causing a loss of zero, and there are examples of the screw heads sheering off, especially with 10mm. The same company you used to mill the slide, also makes metal plates which solves these problems.

The only draw back to getting the slide milled for a specific optic is that it's permanent. It's definitely not a good solution if someone is exploring different options for red dots.

In your case, I think you picked a really good red dot.

The most common "footprint" for a cut is shared by many manufacturers, including Trijicon and Holosun. There are lots of good choices.

I just joined this forum today because I was hoping to find exactly this kind of info. I recently purchased the M&P 9 Compact - not the optics ready model because of non-availability in my area at the time. I just ordered the Holosun 507C intending to mount it with the rear sight adapter because I was told by a highly recommended gunsmith that milling the slide on my M&P was a bad idea. Anyone out there in the Prescott, Arizona area that can recommend a good gunsmith to take the M&P to for milling the slide?

Suarez Int'l is in Prescott. They milled S&W slides for me years ago. They stopped doing S&W in favor of Glocks, but they may be able to recommend a great machinist nearby.

I definitely prefer milling over any other type of mount.

Check with Dave Fink (Fink Custom) in Chino.

Don't be shy about sending the slide to CHP either. They do great work.
