I've always wanted an N frame. I was in one of my favorite gun shops the other day and noticed one they just took in on trade. Far from perfect it was very dirty and had lots of holster wear, minor pitting, chip or two on the stocks. I couldnt believe what I was thinking but to me she was absolutley perfect. This was obviously someones best friend for a long time, probably a service revolver. The owner said a girl traded it because it was too big for her hands (no really?). Traded it for some junk .380. He said he was going to put some rubber grips on it to spruce it up. I looked at him slacked jawed and said "no, Im not, its perfect as it is, get the paperwork started." Once home I gave her a quality de-lousing and oiling. On the under side of the left grip is stamped May 11th 1978. Almost the birthday! C

That is a nice looking old 28. Those grips may be for a K frame. They don't seem to fit very well.......

Those are K frame grips. Some nice N frames will look better. Other than that, she looks good.

That's about the same shape mine is in. We have covered a lot of dirty and dusty miles, and it has served me well.
I'm gonna have it a long long time.

Lemon squeezer, I just did the same thing. I could not let my 28 sit there. She had some bluing missing but other than that mine looks unfired. It still had packing greese on the inner workings.

That's not holster wear or pitting. Those are only beauty marks. It's great looking sixshooter.

fyimo--Thanks for the picture help. And thanks to the other fellas for the grip info. I may change them, although they do fit my beefy hands pretty well. Have you ever bought a gun then wonder how in the world you got along all this time without it? Thats how I feel about the Highway Patrolman.

I see a set of grip on GB listed as oversized N frame grips. They look identical to the ones on my pictured Model 28. Are we sure I have K frame grips? Thanks for any help.

Also, no I havn't shot her yet. I only have carry ammo for 38 and 357. Cant find any other ammo here.

This is the dead giveaway that [yes] indeed you do have K frame target stocks. The void of wood on the frame and backstrap shows this

I'll keep my eyes peeled for a reasonable deal now. Might be awhile, original stocks are getting pricey. I want to keep her original looking so maybe it wont be too hard to find a pair that are "nicely aged".

A few months ago I was given a M28 HP in very similar shape by a friend who had to let go of a number of guns ( kind regards of the SAPS and our wonderful Firearms Control Act here in South Africa

) A good friend in Florida sent me a set of Ahrends grips which completely transformed her, so I highly recommend them.

Presently she's residing in the safe of a gunshop waiting for the whole licencing thing to get sorted out but I miss that revolver every day and can't wait to get her back and onto the range!
