Sad news as I really liked him.

Like other stereotyped entertainers, he worked that shtick to his advantage.

A lot of his stuff on live tv was improvised. He was very quick witted.

he was a funny guy from a more innocent time, a time when people didn't get offended by every little thing.

I remember him well from when I was a kid. He was a sort of semi-regular on the Ed Sullivan show. Ed would play the straight man while Dana (Jose) cracked everybody up. They made a good team.

As I recall he was actually of Hungarian descent. I've no idea where he picked up the accent he used for Jimenez.

I remember him telling a story about when he first came to our country.
He went to a baseball game. He said everyone was so polite. Before
the game started, everyone stood up and asked Jose can you see?

I only knew him in re-re-reruns as shown on A&E back in the early 80's. Rest in Peace Bill/Jose----gosh darn you were funny.

He was born William Szathmary. Sure nailed José's accent, though.

He did play his persona very well. 92 years old almost made the 100 club. Another old time icon added to the list that are gone.
