MY NEW 586 NO DASH

My 4" 586 no dash shipped in 1983. Never had the recall done to it. I don't shoot any light bullet magnum loads, so why bother? Mine came to me in a trade. The Forum Member that I met and traded with recently passed away. We used to meet at the range, shoot and BS. He was a good guy! Bob

My 586 ND has the serial prefix of "ABT" and was shipped on June 24, 1983. It was somebody's sock-drawer gun. Pristine shape and came with the box, docs and tools.

I would buy that gun for its grips.

Photos sure look like a 686 to me.
Either way, a very nice revolver.

The flash does make it look like a stainless revolver, but the case hardened hammer and trigger (and the right side picture is fairly clearly a blued gun) mark it as a 586.
I’m assuming, since he just won the auction, he does not have possession, but when he does, he needs to post pictures!
586 are very nice. I don’t have my book in front of me but I’m gonna say it’s pre-1980
I believe the 586, like the 686, was introduced for 1981. I can't remember for 100% sure though if the 686 came out in 1981 and the 586 may have been a 1982 introduction.

I agree with a couple of other, almost certainly 1982, maybe early 1983. Beautiful gun though. I've had (and currently own 2 still, one 1981 made and one 1982 made) 686's. Looking for a 6" 586 or 686 currently.

I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for those grips today!

My no dash M marked has an AFV manufacturer date code.

Id like to know the year of manufacture as well.

Probably 1985. A call to S&W should give you exact.

I found this 1987 586-1 last month for $550 in a local shop. Didn't have the wood grips. I decided to send it to S&W for the "M" recall work. Hopefully I get it back sometime this year.

For those that don't know about it, here's a great article by Revolver Guy explaining the issue.

Thank you for the information on the build date and especially the article about the recall.

I did not know the exact details or reason for the recall. Good information to have.

I also picked my 586 up for $550 about 5 years ago from a local gun shop and mine had Pachmayr grips when purchased. Luckily I had an extra set of wood stocks to add to mine even though they are incorrect. I may try to find a correct set one of these days.

I really want to add a 4" to my collection!
