Picked up this no dash 686 saturday. Its a tack driver with a buttery smooth action. It has not been back to S&W to get the modification but im not worried about it since it will mostly be shot in IDPA with my 38 special handloads.(158gr LSWC over 4.0gr Universal clays) I function tested it with my hot .357 handloads and it functioned perfectly.(125gr XTP over 21.6gr of win 296) It came with its original target grips but the ugly rubbers just feel so much better for a shooter. A set of ahrends or hogue wood grips will be added soon.

Pachmayr rubber grips are (for me) the most comfortable grips out there. I keep the stock target grips on my revolvers until it's time to head to the range. Then the pach's go on. I haven't seen a set of wood grips that look as nice as the stock targets with the medallions on them, which is why i haven't bought the wood Hogue's or Ahrends. The factory Combats are really nice, but good luck finding them in good condition at all, much less for a square butt.

Anyone able to get me a birthdate on it? Serial # is AEK54**. The target grips had Sept '85 on them so im hoping it matches up and they are the originals since they are very nice.
