Update post #19

Between the wife's car wreck, a couple surgeries, etc. it's been a long time since there's been a foster dog in the house.

Got a call today from Second Chance Dog Rescue in San Diego about helping out with a Boxer/Whippet mix.

I think it's about time. ;)

Meet Diesel! :D

He's listed as a Boxer/Whippet mix. I see the Whippet. When he runs it's unmistakeable.

Boxer? Ummm.... maybe....

I had a dog growing up, we got him from my uncle when he was sent to Vietnam in 67 and the dog (Brutus) lasted until 1979, the year after I was married. My kids are all grown and no grand-kids live close, so I've been thinking about giving our lives over to a new owner. I hate to chain them up and we live 75' off the road. If we move in the next few years to a more secluded house, I believe a new Brutus should take us over. Brutus The First, was half German Shepard and half Red wolf (big coyote). and didn't like anyone outside the family. In fact the only person outside the household, he took to right away was the girl I ended up marrying (Brutus & I both knew a keeper when we saw one). My brother's daughter is a Vet-tech, and his daughter-in-law is a vet, and his farm is owed by 5 rescued "Furry People". Ivan

My life is not complete without a dog. After we lost the last one and did not have a dog for three years there was definately something missing. Got another one, things are back to normal.

Lost my wife in 2008, after more than 57 years,

and dogs are great company. We have had Shelties since 78. Since 2009 I have rescued two needy dogs, one a PomChi, lost him due to congestive heart failure-guy died in my lap, and my Sheltie when she was almost 16 in 2012. In 2011 I rescued another needy Sheltie. She is 11 and a fine dog--good company for an old fart.:D

At my age I only rescue senior dogs.:)

Nice lookin doggy. You can see the Boxer in his snoot. I'll be interesting to see if he does the boxer stance. I'd run to Walmart and get a couple cheap area rugs. Put them in strategic places with plastic under them.

Congratulations. Nothing like a dog to make you realize life is worth living.:)

I've got two good ol' dogs that are my best buddies. One is my Border Collie Patsy and the other is my Plott Hound, Iris. They ride around in the back of the pickup whenever I head into town. They let us know when anybody is coming out to the ol' homestead. They alert me when any unwanted varmint is trying to get into the hen house late at night. But best of all, I've got 'em fooled into thinking I'm a pretty decent guy. They're just plain old good buddies.

My wife has a little 8-pound Maltipoo she keeps in the house. A great little companion for her, but I'm afraid it would get stomped on if it got around our horses and mules.:)

Congrats on your new (temporary?) family member. Hope it all works out well-any thoughts how much bigger Diesel will grow? It's great that your other dog likes him. Everytime I take my lab to a "meet and greet" at our shelter, she's so indifferent to another dog, as I keep looking for a 2nd dog to bring home. I volunteer once a week at our shelter and we have an abundance of pit bull mixes. All of them I've seen have been really sweet, but are last to get adopted.

Second Chance is lucky to have you as one of their foster parents to help socialize the pet for it's next home. We don't have a fenced yard or I would foster, also. I'd probably have several more dogs, too, by now (I think Hubby planned it that way).

And don't buy green banannas? :D

The more I look at him the more I see Boxer & less the "P" word. Yes, he has that classic Boxer stance and boy is he an athlete! :D He does that crazy out of control looking thing that Whippets & Greyhounds do rounding turns at a gallop. Fun to watch.

He's running Dingo ragged. Both dogs slept very well last night. :D

Good blessings on you and Mrs. Fishslayer for your kindness. I know you will be paid back many times over for your act of compassion. Good luck with Diesel the Whixer or is it Boxet?

Fishslayer: That is a handsome dog, please for the sake of all the good and wonderful things in this world Adopt him as soon as possible.

ADOPTED!

Diesel went to his forever home today!

We went to the adoption event at the Poway Petco & Diesel met his new mommy & playmate, a 2YO female Lab/Beagle (they think ) mix Tora. The two got along famously & had a great play session. She had adopted Tora from Second Chance as well. They're both playful, friendly high energy dogs so it should work out. Just hope Mommy can keep up!

So it looks like just Dingo & me at Paws in the Park tomorrow.
