My new glove-box gun...???

That is a great idea with the LH Kydex holster! I might just do that! How did you attach it to the center console? Also, what brand of Kydex holster are you using for this? (cheap Uncle Mike's or something nicer like Blackhawk?). Also, is it one of the paddle back types or does it have belt loops? I'm liking this idea.

I can tell that you are NOT FROM NEW YORK.Here leaving a gun in the car will at the least get your pistol license pulled. If it is in the glove box and you are stopped by a cop it may well get your head blown off. They won't hear I have a license, they will yell gun and then the shooting begins.I might love to live where you are......God Bless.....Mike

What happens to "it" when you have to make an Emergency Stop or when somebody runs into you??? Just about as stupid as driving without seat belts!!!

Well, if somebody hits me, I guess it will slide off into the floorboard. Not exactly a pressing concern, I don't think.

I usually keep it in a holster in the seat, by the way.

it might be more to do with the law than theft, think 10 or so years ago in WA State a law was passed that for the most part didnt allow guns in racks in the window anymore.

You didn't "Offend me" you simply "Concerned" me by what you were planning to do. I thought that you were in need of some advise and I gave it. I spent long enough in Active Law Enforcement to know that what you were suggesting wasn't the smartest thing in the World - especially, in todays World! You're Welcome to do whatever you chose.

It might be noted that a number of LEOs found out that doing such - laying their sidearms on the car seat next to them - wasn't such a good idea. It happened in Miami a few years back and the individuals were FBI Agents and it cost several people their lives. In todays World of Road Rage and with what I've seen happen at Accident scenes with one driver saying that the other guy did such and such and the problems that have come up, well, anybody who failed to maintain "COMPLETE" control over their sidearms aren't working with a full deck!

It's the only place I wouldn't recommend a Blackhawk SERPA, here's why. The SERPA has that wonderful index finger released retention feature. So if your right handed, and are trying to grab it WITH your right hand, your going to come up short the one extra thumb you'll need to release the retainer lever on a L/H rig. As I said, the SERPA is far and away the best of the type.! It just won't work well in this particular specialty application? As to "paddle" or "belt" type, it all depends on how it's constructed, as well as on how the cars interior is constructed.

Colorado: Loaded pistols allowed in vehicle w/o permit. Loaded (chamber empty) long guns allowed as well.

Denver can be sticky about "peaceable journey" if your residence is within Denver city limits, but other than that it's a remarkably gun-friendly state... for now.

Things have gotten so crazy in this country . . . with so many varying little laws meant to nitpick at us folks who try so danged hard to never violate any laws.

Before I travel to various states I do a thorough investigation all over again on the various differences in the gun laws of those various states, to I can be a good boy scout.

But . . . in the end I will do what my conscience tells me is right to protect my family and myself using common sense.

I couldn't have said it any better Tom. +1 on that!

As I said in my post, I can see carrying a rifle or shotgun in a car. It extends your abilities in extreme situations. I especially want something that can penetrate car bodies since the "emergency situation" while I'm in a car might be with bad guys inside another car.

Anyway, why do so many of you carry "car handguns?" Is it people who don't have a CCW so the car gun is the only one? If a person has a CCW and it always carrying when driving, what is the rational for another handgun? Sure, backup, NY reload, etc. But it sounds like many of you are thinking of this gun as your primary?

I only have one time that I carry a handgun as a "truck gun." If I think I may need a gun for some kind of varmint or hunting reason. Not something I would attempt with an Airweight .44 Special. Then I may put a .22 or .32 handgun in the car with some extra ammo. That doesn't appear to be what we are talking about here though!

First thing I read in this entire post that made any sense.

You can go through life worrying about what would happen if the gun in your truck (wherever the hell you keep it) should be stolen and used in a crime or....you can just stick your Sig or your Glock under the seat knowing if the SHTF, your ready. You can worry about the legalities later...if you survive.

My thoughts anyways.

Get behind the wheel of your car, buckle the seat belt and then try to draw your weapon.

Also, I used to carry a 9mm as my CCW. I liked having a .357 revolver in the truck as I was more likely to have to shoot thru car bodies if I had to shoot somebody from/ near the truck.

I normaly pocket carry a 340PD....try to pull that out when sitting

I also carry a HK USPc 45 in my bag with a Rosen shoulder rig, when I am driving the HK is stuffed next to me between the seat and console.

in my old beater Cruiser I stuff a old Colt Trooper in the seat..its as rusted and pitted as the Cruiser....it just fits

dont ask what else I carry in the Cruisers

as someone who was once carjacked(and I won BTW) it makes ya re-think somethings(in the case of the carjacker that was, dont bring a knife to a gun fight)

As much as I hate to bring it up,,, I believe that if you keep a gun in your car and it is stolen, Your are responsible in a way to contributing to a real issue, GUns in the hands of folks who shouldnt have them!!!!!!!!
Your fault.
I'm pretty sure the real cause of the problem is the sorry piece of %$&## the broke into my car.

I keep a gun in my vehicle 99.9% of the time. It's reasonable to carry it there if you frequently have business in places where CCW is illegal - schools, government offices, military bases, etc. I have business in all of those places, so it's much easier to keep a gun secured in my vehicle than to try to inconspicuously remove it each time I go into one of those facilities.

All that said, I think a 2" M-10 would make a delightful glove box gun.

They are handy, and if your life is in mortal danger, handy may save your life. If you have time to run to the trunk, some lawyer might say you had time to run away instead of maim his client.

Also, I've won over 100 handgun matches and I handgun hunt (small and large game) and am quite proficient and confident using them.

Why not have more of 'em if you want. It ain't illegal in my state.

Today, when on the road, I had a Kimber Ultra CDP .45 AND my chopped 25-2 in the glove box . . . plus loaded magazines and moonclips. Also, the Model 37 no dash was in my front pocket.

It may be a case of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" going on in the replies, sir.

Discreet gun people don't usually talk about it. For the heck of it I thought I would tonight.

I NEVER said I didn't have that short barreled Ithaca 37 slug gun in the trunk, ready to rack two rounds of 000 buckshot, followed by rifled Federal Slugs . . . but it WAS ready to go in the trunk.

Didn't mention the Millet red-dot topped Ruger .44 Magnum Carbine either . . . or the Model 29 with a Holosight . . . or the scoped Remington 742 30.06 . . . or my scoped Remington M700 in .270 . . . or the Holosighted Ruger MkII Target pistol . . . or the Kel-Tek P32 . . . or the Model 19-5.

Didn't mention the ammo either. Counting a brick of .22LR . . . probable about a 1,000 rounds in my normal ammo box.

Then again . . . I was headed out to the hunting club and thought I'd do a little target shooting.

Again, it is legal. Down here in middle Georgia we enjoy shooting a lot and this is normal. If I was pulled over in LA or Chicago the cops would probably crap in their pants and draw down . . . and the news channels report on a guy with an "arsenal" in his car.

Nahhh . . . I'm just a peaceful guy who loves shooting sports . . . and my handguns are just a last ditch weapon when you can't get to a more effective one . . . or avoid the situation altogether!
icon_wink.gif

Tonight, they are all safe and warm in my safe . . . ahhhh . . . another wonderful day in paradise!

T.

Oops . . . as I right this, I realize the night sight-equipped Kimber is tucked in tight, in a belt slide holster on my hip . . . with the "all the time" Model 37 Airweight in my weakhand front pocket . . . for I just got in walking the dog on this chilly night and there is a roaming dog pack around here that animal control hasn't taken care of.

I don't want my little Boston Terrier hurt!

Ahhhh . . . the life of a central Georgian!

The important thing is that it stays where you put it and isn't allowed to fly around the cab during your "outings"!!!

Hi Tanksoldier,

I feel quite blessed to be LEFT HANDED! I can wear my Kimber in a belt slide holster on my left hip and the seat belt doesn't interfere at all. Plus, there's a gap on the driver's left side of the seat that lets us draw pretty easily too.

It is one time when it is good being left-handed on American roads!

Still, I've always been a person believing in redundancy on things that are critical. And what's more critical than having backup tools to protect one's life?
icon_wink.gif

Thus, I'll usually have more than one handgun in the car . . . my "always" handgun, a Model 37, backed with a .45ACP.

In the trunk? The slug gun. Nuthin' fancy . . . but quite comforting.

I'm grateful my state allows us concealed carry license folks to conceal our weapons in secure places that keep the guns safe from damage too!
