I'm going to change grips as soon as I can make up my mind as to what I want.

These are great little guns. Replacement grips can be tough to find as standard J frame grips do not fit. Good luck in your search, Bob

Executioner has 3 pair of hi horn elk stags for the 40......if that is what you are looking for he will hook you up.....I have some for mine, they need just a bit of fitting before i can take a pic of them mounted...hopefully tomorrow...

I own 2 M40s and I can tell you that finding grips for them is like winning the lottery. Executioner, Craig Spegel and Eagle are the only companies making grips. Altamont makes the set that came with your gun. I have talked with Altamont asking for them to make a boot set for the M40 but they said they are not interested.

Altamont carries the new style in stock??? I looked on their website but didn't see any....didn't call them though

I liked my plain steel 40-1 so much that I picked up one in nickel and another one in color case hardened. To round out the set I also picked up a 42-1. Very nice little revolvers.

Altamont does not list them on their site. I purchase my grips from ebay member gripseller. What you see on her site is the one you get. My last purchase was an Altamont boot grip for the round butt K&L frame. Altamont never listed those on their website and even said they did not exist when I called.

My model 40's stock grips were a disappointment. The horns on both sides flared out from the frame. I managed to bend one side enough so it looked ok, the other side didn't respond well. They are made of some kind of plastic and the medallions are not metal - but plastic as well.

I found a set of J frame Hogue finger groove wood grips in my grip box. I dressed down the area that fits in the round cut out in the frame and "presto", the grip fit perfectly. The tensioner at the bottom of the Hogue grip, holds the grip to the frame very well.

I put a set of Eagle's Secret Service checkered on my 40-1 and love them. I had some conversations with Bill at Eagle about spotty quality reports before I ordered and he promised to make sure that mine were fit checked before shipping. They fit fine with no issues and look great!
