Just picked up this 4" -2. This particular one is a WV State Police example.

I do have the target stocks, they're nothing spectacular so I'm trying out these Altamonts for the time being. It cleaned up really nice. Looks good next to my 19-4 4", which was my 1st acquired SW revolver.

Serial # is ACT2*** Maybe I'm slow but I can't locate it in my SCSW 5th ed. Can anyone provide insight to the year of manufacture? Hoping I get lucky and it's my birth year, 1984.

Now that photo op is done, time to shoot it!

That's a nice 66-2, and a lot of them were manufactured and stamped for various LE departments across the country. The 66-2 was introduced in 1982 and continued until 1986 with the release of the 66-3. Like you, I couldn't find much info in the SCSW 5th Ed. except that your "ACT 2xxx" triple-alpha prefix could have been stamped almost anytime between 1983-1986. But I'm leaning towards 1983-1984 since "AC?" prefixes from ACS thru ACZ were released in those years. There is no mention of any WV State Police issue in the SCSW 5th Ed., so yours may be the first ever reported. Perhaps contact S&W customer service for a manufacture/shipping date. Irregardless, that should be a fun and accurate shooter. Keep digging, and enjoy!
