This is my review of the Smith & Wesson Sigma .40sw.

I was looking for ammo online and i saw a picture of a sigma, after following the link it lead me to a forum (i cant remember the name) where they were had a few picture and different models, (fullsize, , blue, stainless & allied force) it catches my eye because i wasn't looking for any other handgun, but this one looked sexy, after a few research the only complain that i have found is people talking about the heavy trigger pull which i will talk later.

Some people said (forum posts) that the early version used to jam once in a while, but after the new version was release all those bugs were fixed. I have no experience with any SW handgun but people love their revolvers & semi autos in general so this was a new adventure for me (something nice to get in the future). last week i called my local dealer to find out the asking price for a new sigma and to see if they had any model in display so i can try them, quest what , the guy was aking $400 OTD and didn't have any in stock, so i call another dealer, this one was asking 380+tax and didn't have one instock but try to sell me a $519 glock 17, enough with the shopping around.

This monday i finally found a good deal online, $299 shipped, so i jump on it, it arrived yesterday, but i didn't have the time to do a review, the sigma does look a lot like glock, i didn't have the time to shoot it today but i'll go to the range tomorrow, i hope it looks as well as it looks, it come with a 3 dot sight, stainless steel slide and barrel, 2 14-rounds stainless magazines, lock, manual, 2 empty case... in a yellow envelope. The grip angle work just for me and i find it a little more confortable than my glock-17.

Time to talk about the trigger. As many of you know or have read, it's heavy... but this is the good part, my glock come with a 5.5lb trigger pull and this sigma come with a 7.5lb trigger pull just 2lb over the glock, nothing to worry about, in fact i find it helpful because with the little extra weight in the trigger pull, i have more confidence in it to carry one in the chamber than my glock now, this is not a 'shoot all day range pistol" but more of a CCW, in the end this pistol was build to be a concealed weapon and not a range toy, let the glock and 1911 to the all day shooting at the range . after all, one is heavy and the other is big for CCW (but i can tell you they both work great for CCW )

overall, for $299.00 OTD i'm very happy with the fit & finish of the SW Sigma .40sw and the trigger is perfect for a CCW pistol without external safety , plus who cares about a trigger pull in a life or death situation (i dont).

BTW, i shot it this thrusday and all i can say is WOW..., the first round ever with this gun was a silhouette bullseye, followed by the second shot right next to it followed by the other 12 rounds all in the big hole with slow aimed fire.

once i finish that mag, i loaded the other and bang...bang..bang....all 14 rounds shots at center mass very very fast, the good thing is that i didn't have any kind of failure, then i tried some double taps to the top followed by 3 shots to center mass of the silhouette, after all 100 rounds i was very happy with the reliability and accuracy of the pistol. i know i'm only at the 100 rounds mark but there 100 rounds were trouble free.

after that i shot the glock 17 and fairly new 1911 without any problems, and the trigger felt soooo light

i would like to hear your comments...

Welcome to the forum.

Glad you like your Sigma (I like mine). If you do a search, you will find that you are preaching to the choir. There are many, many satisfied Sigma owners here. While there are better weapons out there, I don't think there are better bargains.

btw, if your trigger pull is around 7 lbs, I think you lucked out. iirc, the out of the box trigger pull of most Sigmas is around 10lb. Never measured mine, but it seems awfully heavy. Like you said, I don't mind though.

Enjoy your weapon.

Without question, the best value in a handgun out there. I agree, having owned a Glock and used to my M639 with its ambi-safety, the stiff trigger pull is an asset, not a liability.

Said it at THR, I'll say it here, Sarduy - that's a handsome looker.

Remember when a DA pull of 10 pounds was considered good for a revolver?

My my my that's an awefully handsome gun you've got there, that my friend is one reliable gun you got there! 299 out the door you got your self a great deal! welcome to the sigma family, I own one just like yours. my isn't as shinny and flawless like you but it shoots everytime I have money to buy ammo for it. You will be very happy with your sigma for many many years to come.

2 brass in the envelope.....either a quirk, or it came from New York? Who's name is on envelope?

It does my heart good to be in a place of Sigma appreciators.

I just had to say that.:D

Glad you like your new gun. After reading all the reviews here I am now considering a 9mm Sigma.

I have the .40,with trigger mod and Meprolight sights.I'm considering get a 9mm to keep it company.

Welcome to the site. +1 on all the raves for the Sigma. When I was shopping for a .40, I'd looked at some others. But as soon as I picked up the Sigma, my plastic and permit were on the counter and it came home with me. They were running a special then, $50 USD off and 2 more 14 rnd mags.
The trigger will smooth out after you've put some rounds thru it as well.
Have fun.

I've had mine for almost 3 years now, and it's become my main carry gun. I polished the sides of the slide with Mother's Mag Wheel Polish and it looks GOOD!

Had a Sigma about seven years ago but like a fool,I sold it.I've regretted it ever since. But I put another one on lay-a-way
last week.Planning on picking it up before long.Oh yeah,it's a .40.
Oh,by the way,can anyone recommend a decent IWB holster ? I really can't afford some of the prices that I've been seeing on
some of the holster manufacture's websites.

Sigma

First of all, welcome to the forum, and congrats on the new gun ! Most here seem to have nothing but praise for the Sigma's,with the possible exception of the trigger, which I've found, people either love or hate. Hope that you got a good one,as the one I have ,a SW9VE, has been problematic right out of the box. Had to return it to the S & W factory after running ( or trying to ) several boxes of ammo thru it. Had numerous FTF problems, several FTE problems. While not happy with this situation, I must say that S & W's customer service is excellent, had no problems contacting them by phone, explained the problem, had a return label within 3 days.I believe that the total turn around time from the day I mailed the gun to the day I received it back was just under 2 weeks, not bad, considering this happened in early Feb. when many people were reporting major waits for service. It had the following repairs when returned : Replaced striker assembly, Polished bolt rail,Polished barrel ramp,Adjusted extractor. It seemed to work OK during the next few outings and I was hoping everything was OK.No such luck. After about 2-3 months,I started getting a couple of FTF's on each outing, not enough to warrant returning it again, just enough to be annoying.I noticed the the problem was slowly getting worse as I used the gun more( during last weekends IDPA match I had around 12-14 FTF's) so I guess it's time to return it again. Am thinking of sending it down to Frank Smith/LSG Manuf. in Texas,as I've heard many good things about Frank's work.Anyone here have any experiance (pro/con ) with Frank's work ? Didn't mean to put a damper on your enthusiasm, hope you have no problems at all, just be aware that these things do happen and that I've found S&W's warranty/customer service to be excellent.

Sigma

I had some FTF (failure to feed) and FTE's when I first got my SVE9 as well as one of the 'bad' triggers. I called Frank, who is a really great guy to speak with, and before I had gotten more than a few words out he gave me his Fed-Ex number and told me how to ship it. In less than a week it was back with a much improved trigger and not a single failure of any kind since. He is absolutely the best representative that S&W could ever have.

2 brass in the envelope.....either a quirk, or it came from New York? Who's name is on envelope?

Actually the empty casings are for the Police in States that require it. I live in Maryland where you can't purchase a new handgun without the spent case in with the gun when it's shipped to the FFL. Once the paperwork is approved (it actually says something like "Not Disaproved". This way the State Police can't be taken to Court and Litigated against for approving a handgun to someone who used it to take someone's life.) Any-way the paperwork and the spent cases are kept in a file for later use.

If there has been a crime committed using a handgun and you are the main suspect. The Police will then take these spent cases from your gun when you originally purchased it and compare them to the one's found at the scene of the crime. Needless to say if they match......Oh No:eek:

More useless information you needed to know, huh? But now you know. Many Marylanders have purchased a new handgun on-line and had them sent to their FFL only to find out they can't take possession of it just because it didn't come with the required spent Cases.

what site did you order it from? Im in the market for one and it sounds liek a great deal.
