Very cool, the only thing I would add is to start yourself a new thread so your pistols get a little more attention. Otherwise they might get lost in this thread and not appreciated. Looking forward to the pictures. Cheers. Daniel.

Welcome to the forum -- there are some serious Heavy Duty appreciators here. Do you know this web site? www.38-44heavyduty.com It is kept by 1Aspenhill, a forum member who specializes in these fine N-frame .38s.

Magnas on a 1936 HD would be some of the earliest magnas. If you pull the stocks, you should see the gun's serial number impressed into the wood of the right panel. That would tell you that you have the original wood that came with the gun in 1936. If the number is missing or different, the stocks are a later replacement.

Speaking of which, can you share the serial number on this gun? You can xx out the last couple of digits if you'd like; the first three digits should be enough to confirm or question the 1936 date you heard in famil tradition.

By all means, pictures! But as dacoontz said, be sure to start a new thread for the gun.

What a pleasure it must be to have a service revolver with two generations of family tradition behind it. That kind of history becomes part of the gun along with the steel and the wood. Congratulations!
