FINALLY, I was able to pick up my S&W Model 60.

No Factory grips, but I really do like the aftermarket that it came with. I thought about getting some panel grips and a t-grip, but I really do like the ones that are on it.

If anyone has any more info I'd appreciate it (Ser. # R319XX).

So for my money, all $525 of it, here's what I got.

1 - Stainless Mod. 60
2 - Bianchi Holster (#5BH) already broken in.
3 - hard case
4 - 2 Safariland speed loaders
5 - (50) 148gr RNFP (hard cast)
6 - (50) 148gr WC
7 - (30) 148gr HBWC
8 - (20) .38 spl brass cases

I think I fell in love all over again. :D

Anyway Picture time!

Very nice pinned barrel gun. It was shipped in 1970. I have 1969 and it's my everyday carry gun, with Speer Gold Dot 135GR SB +Ps in it. I have the same holster only in black and my wife has her model 36 (same gun blued) in it.

Just by the off chance if anyone can help ID the grips. There are no markings anywhere (even inside) them.

Xlnt - I love the model 60.

I think I'm liking the grips too - are they only checkered on the fingertip side? Certainly, it's at least worth shooting with them to see if you fall in love ... never know.

Very nice score.

Grips are only checkered on one side? Interesting. Just from looking at the photos, I thought that you had two different sets of grips. Personally I think those are a bit too big, I like boot grips on my j-frames, but to each their own. A set of black uncle mike boots would look great on that model 60- that's what I have on mine. Very servicable and inexpensive to boot (no pun intended)- they're out of production but S&W still has some in stock clearance-priced at $22 delivered.

So I went to the local indoor range for a quick range session. I went through all of the 80 or so 148gr WC. 7 and 10 yards slow and rapid fire. I like it even more now. The grips were just fine. I might try a few others for comparison.

I can picture those grips being a custom order for a detective for a carry piece, and he wanted the checkering left off the right side because the checkering snagged or wore holes in his sport coat. But he wanted the checkering for a secure hold on the left side. If yo don't want them, please list on the forum, and I'd bet you won't have any trouble selling them.

H Richard,
I was thinking the same thing. That there were custom ordered for that same reason. To be snag/grab free on the right side. I'll be doing a cleaning later today, and will post some more detailed pics. I'd still like to get an idea of who made them. Someone early mentioned them being copied from Fuzzy Farrant (or one of his buddies from LAPD). I think that I'll still be picking up a few other varient of grips before selling them. I don't have anything else to mount.

Nice gun and grips. However, with the predominant "Wundhammer Swell" on the left side, I would bet money that they were customized for a left handed shooter.

Bob
