I was very fortunate to come across a face-to-face trade with a fellow forum member for these two beauties. Both 4" Model 57s, nickel and blue, both unfired in their complete presentation boxes. I had to give up a couple a pretty nice semi-autos but I'm happy with the deal. I probably won't be shooting these. I'll be content shooting one of my other three 41 mags pictured on the bottom: 657-2, 657-4 Mountain Gun, or 58. Love a good trade! Thanks Tim!

You're quite welcome Brad! I'm alway glad when we forum members can help each other out. I know my 57's went to a good guy/home today and you'll take care of them. I'm now looking at that unfired nickel 29-2 I showed you and I'm trying to decide to go ahead and let it go. The wife found the tool kit for it and most of the original paperwork after you left today. Ah well! Maybe it's time to let it go to a new home as well.
Thanks again!
Tim

Now that I have grown older, and can no longer, enjoy the great thump of my magnum Mountain Guns, I have started to hand load 41 special in lighter great non abusive loads, Just a little brass trimming . I have been following John Taffins , reccomendations

loading .41 mag.

At 73, I don't do mag. any more, but I load my .41 to about 900-1,000 FPS with about a 200 gr. swc soft lead bullet. my .41 is very accurate with this load. those are some really nice 4 inch .41's in the above pictures. If they even make it, I think I've like a .41 (model 57) with a 5 inch barrel. I have a "N" frame .45 LC with a 5 inch barrel and it's been used and put away wet. I love it. And it quite accurate with my cowboy loads(200 gr.RNFN) bullet.

5"...like this one?

..or maybe a slimmer 27 profile barrel....

Joe...as to making and shooting .41 Special...don't need to. Using, Unique, Trail Boss or 231/HP38 very accurate low velocity loads can be made in standard Magnum brass. The only time Special brass is nice to have is when one has a short cylinder gun like a Freedom Arms 97, Taurus Tracker or Colt SAA.

To the OP...what a beautiful set!!!!

YOU LUCK DOG What a beautiful pair I'm GREEN with envy my 4in was used by a Secret Service agent [Pres. Carter days] according to party I purchased it from and has a SS emblem in place of the S&W on the grips Best Keith

Awesome pair and the other three are nice too. It's great went everyone comes away from a trade happy.

BCD...could you give us an idea of when each of the guns were made... I find it interesting that the presentation cases are so different.

Thanks...Bob

The nickel is N1253xx so probably around '73. The blue is N6493xx so around '79.

Thanks....

I have a blue and nickel set made in 1979 and 1980...both Class A engraved. Both came with presentation cases still in the factory plastic wrap so I have no clue what they look like...

Nice acquisition! I am not a huge .41 mag fan, but I do a appreciate it's uniqueness and LE roots. Here's my 657 3" that I often CCW.
