Recently made trade with another forum member for a 3" S&W 66-2. This is a gun that has haunted my thought and occupied a great deal of my free time trying to locate. My trade went smoothly and I was fortunate enough to get out to my local range this weekend for an initial test run. To say the least I am very pleased. Future plans include switching to a patridge front sight blade and enjoying every opportunity I get to shoot this little jewel. Now to find a 3" Model 19 to keep it company.

I know next to impossible to find those non-catalogued S&W items but they are out there

Congrats, I love my 66-3 3" just got it in November and love it.

Here's my 3" 66-3 love it.
Those are .500 s&w rounds with it BTW

Congrats on the purchase and it's certainly a great shooter

Chud great looking pistol. Love the L frame guns (586/686) and N frame (29's) but they dont hold a candle to a classic 3" K frame in my opinion.

I'm impressed with your shooting @ 20 yds., was that standing or from a bench? Maybe 40 yrs. ago I could have shot a group like that, anyway, nice find.

Thanks you would imagine I would have done better at 5 yds but some of that was me adjusting sights. The 20 yd target was done standing and completely unsupported in SA mode. Group measures 1.45" on a 3" target.

Not easy to shoot with the Pachmayr compacs with the exposed backstrap
like that.
What is the serial on your 66-2? AFK by chance?
Let SnW19357 know for his database.

I doubt you will find a 3" model 19 unless you sell your soul.
But stranger things have happened.

Good luck and good shooting.

Allen,
Did they even make the 19 with a 3" ? Thought you might be the one to ask. Love your pictures of short-barrels keep em' coming. Chuck

Chud I know S&W did make a few of these for various LEO groups but it is my understanding that they are non-catalogued items. Hopefully we can get more info from someone smarter than me

Beautiful revolver. Anyone would be proud to own it. Your 5 yd. targets look like mine in DA. Your 20 yds. target is beyond me. Off-hand... about the best I can do it 4" for two cylinder loads. Enjoy your revolver! Sincerely. brucev.

While we're on the subject of 3 inchers what would bring a higher price, a 3" m66 like the op's or a 3" CS686 ?

Allen-frame the ser. no is an AFK prefix
Nothing better than a 3" CM, lev83. Congrats on finding one!

For anyone interested there is CURRENTLY a 3" Model 19 LNIB on gunbroker. I was high bid at $1600 but still didn't meet the reserve...couldn't personally justify chasing higher (still have need for my soul). But if I can't have it I'd love for one of my S&W forum buddies to get it! Good luck!

That answers my question.. Very nice, I especially like the 19-2.
snw19_357..... You sir, are living right...
BCDWYO, thanks for the heads-up. A little rich for my blood as well.
Maybe LEV83 will pick it up...
