Recently a friend of mine (friends for 46 years), of whom I shot with in NJ in the early 80's has decided to give up shooting. He just turned 80. He sold his Gold Cup, Model 41, Model 52 and tried to sell his 14-4 but no one was interested. BTW, he kept a Government model 45 for home protection.
I asked him what he was going to do with the 14-4, and without a flinch he said, "I am giving it to you." I was flabbergasted and said that I would buy it from him. He said, No, it is yours. BTW, I sent him an Omaha Steak package in appreciation for his generous gift.
I paid for shipping from NJ and the transfer here in Florida. The gun was, based on the SSN manufactured in 1979. Over the years he added a Bomar rib. The gun has a target hammer and target trigger. Over the years of shooting the trigger has smoothed out beautifully. I had a gunsmith friend check it out and he said it was GTG. I put in a new ejector rod b/c the original was worn pretty badly as you can see in the photo. See photo below, sorry for the poor quality. The gun has some loss of bluing, but for a 44 year old gun what would you expect. I use it locally here in Florida to shoot centerfire matches and currently I am averaging 286. I wish I had more friends like him....
PS: I should have put this in the 1961 to 1980 thread...sorry. Does anyone know how I can move this to that thread?
