My only Colt

Very nice! I have you guns older brother. I’d have to look the SN up but think it’s 1974. My brother has one he bought new on sale and picked it up in the mud $250’s. You can guess how long that’s been. His looks unfired and still has the box and papers. I’ve tried several times to buy it from him but he won’t turn loose of it.

Anyway I have a very clean one and really love shooting it. Welcome to the Colt club.

Ah yes, The Prancing Pony, a delightful little place that I've visited a few times. Strange sometimes; the first time I visited I was enjoying a pint (it comes in pints!) when this little fellow fell on the floor and then just vanished! The last time I was there, this shadowy figure in a hooded cape sold me this .38 Diamondback.

A 2 1/2" Diamondback would be tempting if I could find one I can afford.

That looks like a fantastic condition Detective. Hopefully it's mechanically sound too.

I have a '68 Detective & a '61 Cobra. The Detective was previously LEO & now my conceal carry piece, it has been rode. Due to actual use, I've always liked the newer style they came out with in the '70s that covers the extractor rod for protection. I bet the grip change is more comfortable too.

I've been wantin' to carry the Cobra of lately due to the lesser weight. However, the decent condition of it coupled with having the serialized original grips, on top of it's age, has prevented me from doing so.

Sounds like you plan to carry your new one. They are great carry guns.

What I did was buy a new Kimber K6xs as my EDC. It takes the same speedloader as the DS and is very comparable.

My only Colt Revolver is a 1956 Official Police that I bought at an estate auction a number of years ago. You can really see and feel the quality and craftsmanship in it. Fortunate to get it at a reasonable price as it was the only firearm in an in person estate auction.

I'm a big fan of the Colt "D" frame revolvers. I currently have four. A 3rd Issue Detective Special, 6" .22 Diamondback, 4" .38 Diamondback and a 4th Issue Police Positive.
Bigger than a J-frame, but smaller than a K-frame. They make excellent carry guns while being big enough to shoot well. ;)

I only have a couple of "modern" Colt revolvers and I think both are really iconic. Both also show some honest wear, but to me that makes them interesting. I have a Detective Special (2nd Issue) from 1952 with the original box, and a 1982 blued 6" Python that I rescued after it was being bounced around in a pickup truck as a "truck gun". They're both great shooters. Since I'm a big fan of Film Noir (Cagney, Bogart, E.G. Robinson, etc.), I had to have a DS!
