Always wanted one of these due to the history of Hamer with his 20 shot Model 8.

Got this recently and will clean her up tomorrow. Range in a week or 2 after.

Born in 1910. Serial number 22905.

Gotta search for ammo now.

Manny

There is considerable controversy about what Hamer himself used at the ambush. But it was not an M8 in .35 Rem and it did not have an extended magazine. Most believe he had a Remington Model 11 12 gauge. Even the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco is confused.

There is a M8/81 fan website forum.

Nice rifle. I have an 81 in .35 Rem. It was my neighbors father's deer gun kept in a cabin in the UP of Michigan. When he passed no one in her family wanted it so she gave it to me for helping her out with little chores over the years. I never even knew she had it until she asked a funny question one day. She also didn't know what it was. As I started to pull it out of the case my first thought was Browning A5 until I got it out of the case!

The best bet by far for one you intend to shoot much is a M81 in .300 Savage, assuming you reload. Ammunition is never a problem as .300 Savage brass is very easily and simply formed from .308 or 7.62 NATO cases. Not so with other calibers. Just try finding any. There is nothing that the .35 Rem does that the .300 Savage won’t do better. And .35 Rem ammo is difficult to come by. .25, .30, and .32 Rem ammo and brass is nearly unobtainable. You can form brass, but it’s not an easy job.
