I got my second S&W today:D, unfortunately I no longer own my first one. I received it in a trade for a old beat up 870 Express. This one isn't too pretty but I like it just the same. I'm going to store the original (serial # matching) grips and use some hogues. I was for a brief second considering re-blueing or doing some other kind of finish but I've decided to keep it completely original. I think it maintains the character, but is there a way I can clean the finish up a bit? Not re-blue it, or take the blueing off, but clean the finish? I'm not sure if that makes sense. Overall, despite being 40 years old and a Phoenix PD gun, it has great timing, very very little play in the cylinder and a great smooth trigger. Not only will I enjoy this revolver, but I think my kids someday will too. Here are some pictures.

Rub it down with oil on a patch, let it soak into & kill any rust. Use a good gun oil. (Hint: WD40 is a great penitrant but it evaporates. A good gun oil leaves a protective film.)

Nice shooter.

I think that you will find surplus police guns are usually in excellent mechanical condition. That one will serve you well.

Can't beat a model 10 HB. Good call on leaving it as it is and enjoying it.

Great looking shooter. Model 10s are fun and accurate. Shoot it and enjoy your new revolver.
