Okay, help me out here, folks. I'm not a real fan of "black rifles" for some reason, and I've never been real impressed with the 5.56 or .223 round. Also, they just look too "Star Wars" for me.
Give me some reasons why you think a person should have an AR.
I don't think a person who does not like an AR-15 pattern rifle should get an AR-15 pattern rifle. I had two. I tried my best to like them. I outfitted them both with aftermarket parts and furniture to get the AR-15 to fit me and fit my preferences. I learned the expensive way that the AR-15 pattern rifle isn't for everyone. No matter what I did to it, the AR-15 never satisfied me.
When the authors of the US Constitution said the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, my sense is their intent was that government shouldn't reserve for itself a level of arms that was greater than what the citizenry would be allowed to own. So if the rifle of choice for government to supply its agents with is AR-15's, I think we owe it to ourselves to maintain the parity that our forefathers intended. Each of us should own an AR-15.
I agree. Looking for a source for a LAWS, a minigun, and a mortar . . .
One of my sons called yesterday to tell me that "we" need to pick up a couple of AR15's. I asked why. His response was to the effect that he's afraid a time is going to come when, due to whatever may be, we'll no longer be able to purchase them and he wanted to make sure he had one before you couldn't buy them anymore. And he thought it would be prudent for his old man to have one, too.

Give me some reasons why you think a person should have an AR. I think if I were prone to get a semi-automatic rifle of that nature, I'd probably opt for something more like the Ruger Mini-14 Ranch Rifle. But, that's just me.
Remember, I'm just an old guy that still carries a lever action rifle in his pickup truck.
Okay...I'm ready. Educate me. Thanks.
I don't have a problem with folks owning AR's and I don't have anything against them, I just don't particularly have a reason to get one myself. I admit, both Bill Clinton and Barak Obama have certainly tempted me to go get one "before it's too late", but I have a enough M1 carbines and .30 carbine ammo to outfit a squad or two so I think I'm good in that category.
