My State In The News Today...

As a RSO, I can tell you that I see far too many people in the range that have no idea how to properly handle a firearm. I'm of the opinion, based on what I see, that the level of safety will go down initially. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Let me look in the bill of rights and the Second Amendment where it says that.

*Still Looking*

Nope, doesn't say thing at all about it.

Does someone need to have a four year degree in English Lit to exercise their First Amendment Rights? Or maybe they have to be an ordained minister to practice their religious beliefs?

I have not seen the entire law Tennessee just passed. I do know that it does not apply to long guns, but it does increase penalties for gun violations. At my local shooting range one of the RSO's told me that he believes 75% of the folks who have taken their carry permit classes actually do not regularly carry. Also when at the range, I constantly hear RSO's telling folks keep weapon pointed down range. So now I have a concern that while folks can buy small arms and carry without a permit what is the level of safety are going to be??

Look at it this way. You need to have been trained in some manner to drive . You do have to pass both a written test and a hands on test in order to get a drivers permit. Does that stop people from being stupid/careless with cars? Why would you think it would be more effective with guns? PS. No constitutional right to drive.

I tried to check the crime rates of states but hard to compare what Montana calls a violent crime isn't one in say New Jersey.

But, the FBIs reported intentional homicide rate for the US was 5 per 100,000. adding up the numbers from the 20 states with no permit required and dividing by 20 gives an average rate of 4.6. No permit states that are bad are Mississippi -11.2, Alaska- 9.4, Missouri-9.3, Arkansas-8 Ten.-7.3, OK-6.7 , the rest are all 5 or below. DC had 23-5 and Puerto Rico were 19.

Glad I left NY 34 years ago.
But what happens with states that were or are reciprocal.
Since I travel between Tn. & Fla. & other states as well.
Do I still need a permit as the 2X I was stopped by an LEO I immediately responded I had a firearm & was asked to see my CCW permit.

Many permitless states have an option to get a permit for reciprocity purposes, failing that nonresident UT/NH permits were popular.

In Montana I can and will still get a permit, no background check and out of state travel. You do not need to be a state resident to enjoy your RIGHT to carry a gun in Montana. I think most permitless carry states are the same way.

Wondering if Tenn will or still offer or renew current permits??
Always came handy when 2 forms of ID is required.

Here's what appears to be happening now at my gun range. They have always offered "FREE" gun safety classes and CC classes.. Since Tennessee passed no permit law to be effective July 1st 2021 here's what 's happening.. Class size 16 offered 3 times a month. Usually classes are full up until date of class. Generally less than half (8) show up.Since classes are free there is no skin in the game and now that come July you don't need the class to carry folks are just not attending.
.Do they think they don't need to learn the rules of carry , safety issues? For me there is a lot to be said for gun safety, continuing practice of all phases of owning a weapon.
I don't subscribe to the comparisons of driving licenses etc because generally most folks drive daily , which is a form of practice and most folks don't shoot anywhere near that.. I know folks with carry permits that haven't gone to a range in over a year...

I know a guy that told me recently that he had acquired a nice revolver in 44 magnum. Since I like to look under the hood, I asked him what brand, barrel length etc. He did not know, and needless to say I was shocked. I don't think he has fired it yet, and I would like to hide and watch when he touches the first round or two off.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Have you ever considered the possibility that there have been one or two folks, maybe a few more, that have carried firearms without your training or even a permit?:D

Do gangs have their own firearms safety course, or do they contract out to other agencies?

That's good news for the volunteer state!

Kansas did away with the CCW reqierment a few years ago and the numer of licenced CCW permits in Kansas has started to drop off.

Without the CCW reqierment no one knows who or how many are carring!! Kinda keep the bad guy guessing.

I still got my CCW renewed and probobly will every 4 years.

I think its a good idea for new gun owners to get training but, that's thier choice. Taking a gun saftey class is a lot cheaper than a lawyer!

One should be competent with any potentially dangerous and powerful tool they intend to use. We cannot mandate common sense, however.

I have a lifetime carry permit. It can still be needed when traveling to other states.

There is a bill in the Texas legislature to permit "Constitutional Carry" this session. Want to guess which group is the most vocal in opposing it?

License to Carry course instructors. I wonder why they would oppose it.

Bingo! Shore' ges whut auh wunts... /sarc

Can't wait for some/another?... ...young "adult" to line up next to me in the, insert here (range, grocery store, stop light, fast-food place, etc.), with them ALL searching for the Halibut... Never liked fish anyway... :p

IMO, NO to any form of "constitutional carry" feces. Next we will have "Constitutional Driving" where NO-ONE is required to have a driver's license. Let's see who THAT one goes over ...:eek::eek:
