One of the things I was happy about with the Shield was that it came with an extended magazine that I could fit my pinky on when shooting. I'd never shot a pistol that had a short grip so my pinky rested under the magazine and I did not want too. Yesterday I took my new Shield to the range for the first time to get a feel for it. The thing that surprised me the most was how much I liked shooting with the flush magazine! I actually shot more accurately and it felt better in my hand than the extended magazine did. I fully expected to set the flush mount magazine to the side and rarely ever use it. Now I think I'd like to pick up a second one and only shoot it that way. Love this little gun!

Same for me. I have fairly large hands and I was surprised that I actually preferred the flush base plate and that I shot so much better with it than with the extended version.

I am fortunate that I can get 1/2 the thickness of my pinkie on the flush magazine. I also find when at the range the extended magazine collects dust.

I prefer the flush too and I have very large hands. With my 9c I do not like the flush but the Shield allows me a tad more pinky room, a little better to carry with the flush too!

If you think a two finger grip cannot shoot accurately, google "hickok45 glock 26" and watch. You will be surprized and enjoy yourself.
Heck, google hickok45 shield, you will see what can be done with 2 fingers gripping the shield as well.

Another +1 for the flush mag.
I've had several short gripped pistols (PF-9, XDsc, XDMc to name a couple) and prefer curling my pinky underneath.

I'm subscribed already and have seen those. His shooting skills are impressive!

I saw my first S&W 40 Shield last thursday and was pretty impressed. They seem to be a hot item around these parts.
S&W may have a winner here.

That they are, and we have *Dougwg* to give them the trigger treatment & Joey for the grip stippling :D

I concur, even with my large hands I prefer the flush fitting 7 shot magazine in my Shield 9. With my M&P9c I prefer the pinky extension over the flush base plate. If you look closely at both pistols the grip frame on the Shield is in fact slightly longer than that on the M&P9c. S&W engineers really did a great job designing the Shield grip.

I have both the 9mm and the .40, and I like the flush mag on both, by the way the 9mm mag and the .40 are identical except for the holes to show round count. My wife loaded the .40 mag with 9's and it worked prefect in the 9mm

Maybe we need a Swap Your Shield Mag Sticky Thread. :D

I may be up for swaping my flush for an extended. I would even like to see an 8 round mag some day. I have a 40 cal.

Got my Shield 9 last week, and I am in the catergory that prefers the flush mag. I don't have large hands,so it's a good fit. This is my CCW and I'll carry the extended mag as a spare. I will buy another 7 or 8rd mags as soon as they become readily available.
