Lot of set up work for a dozen tomato plants, 6 Early Girl and 6 Better Boy. Covered the ground with strips of 4' wide 3 mil black poly mulch film and then covered the edge with salvage carpet. This is good night crawler ground and they love living under that old soggy carpet. The plastic holds the heat and the water in.

Notice my electric fence. Powered by D cell batteries and backed with 18" chicken wire, them thieving squirrels stop to survey the fence and get a jolt from the stealth hot wire. Makes em turn back flips. :D

Ripe tomatoes by the 4th of July is always my goal. :)

I grew up raising tomatoes near Salk Lake City. You made most of your money having ripe tomatoes before July 4th and after Labor day. We usually had 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 acres in tomatoes.

Have you thought of making a profit of selling them to your neighbors or around town?
