s&w 66-3 w/stainless rear sight

just traded for this pristine 66-3 with stainless rear sight. A bit of research suggest it was made around 1973, evidently stainless sites were used for just a couple years. Anybody has any additional information would be appreciated.

The stainless steel sights were used on the very first model 66's. It was eliminated prior to the -1 engineering change.

66-3's were '86-'94.

The rear sight was always stainless, they just blackened them.

Early 67's were all stainless rear sight also. Mine is a no dash from 1973. Bob
