My try at stippling...

Below is a pic of my first try at stippling. Thought I'd practice on a Tapco SKS mag first before I work on a pistol. Any and all comments or criticism is welcome. I'm just using my soldering iron.

I'm thinking of stippling the non checkered parts of some 3913 grips. I saw a pic somewhere of it. Any thoughts on that?

You did very good on that project. I'am however all thumbs and just finished putting "talon" stick on grip enhancers on my Shield. Hope in this FL weather (humidity) they stay on. YMMV

FYI Talons will stay on if you applied them correctly with enough heat. Have always run Talons on all my guns and never ever had any separation problems or peeling.

Thanks. I was a little apprehensive, hence the reason I practiced on a cheap magazine. On the one video I watched, they also recommended practicing on spare back straps since they are cheap to replace if you mess up. Once I got going, I quickly got the feel for how much pressure to apply, how long to leave the tip in contact with the plastic and what temp to set the iron at.

Thanks! I have tried checkering too. I refinished and re-checkered a Zastava CZ99 rifle once. It had stamped checkering and a motor oil finish.

Thanks. I was using a Dem-Bart starter kit I bought from MidwayUSA. I believe it was the 60deg cutter and it cuts on the push stroke. I don't claim to know a lot about terminology when it comes to checkering tools. The kit included a fine short single line cutter, coarse single line cutter, a 2-edge spacer tool in 20 lines per inch, and some replacement cutters (wide border cutter, fine single line cutter and right hand spacing cutter)

I watched several videos on youtube, but found Larry Potterfield's to be most helpful in understanding the basics. It really helped by have the original stamped checkering to use as a guide. I just slowly started opening up the grooves. I didn't practice much since this was a $169 22lr rifle.

I had it set to 750 F from another project and it worked great on that setting.
