If you really wanna go offroad you'll need to upgrade the tires. They are usually HQ- and MP vehicles.

JJ if you thought they were slow in their original configuration imagine one of those severely over weight jobs.
I think you drove the MB GD 240 which was a 4 cyc, mine is a GD250 which is 5 cyc NA cal and has more power.

Any NA Diesel engine is slow. But back then they were built like tanks, almost undestroyable (is that a word?).Like I said, it's a solid vehicle and it just keeps going. Perfect for hunting adventures...

I am going to see if a local non-dealership shop can soup it up for me, maybe add a turbo or something. I hope something can be done cause I can't stand too slow. But then again maybe I can learn to slow down . When I`m driving it in the mountains I`ll probably be in low range most of the time . The only time I be wanting speed is on the way WEST, once there I`ll go off road and speed is no longer an issue.

Well, drive it and then see how you like it. I'm just a car guy and need some HP under the hood. NA Diesel are slow and all Diesel are dirty in my opinion.
Adding a T/C is both very extensive as well as expensive. Not sure if you want to do this. But here's the good part; the OM602 is a very reliable engine (solid like a tank) and 500k miles are nothing. I think you gonna like it, especially in the mud and in the mountains...

Love the A208, especially the AMG model. The A207 isn't bad either. I've worked for MB quite a bit before changing careers.

Jorge, which engine is in the E550? I never could keep up with MB numbers

The early 550 (2006) is the M273 which was a true 5.5L NA engine.
Later, in 2010 or 2011 I believe, it was replaced by the M278, a 4.6L (still labeled 500/550) twin turbo engine.

I own this one in a longer version with 4 passenger doors and I'm very glad with it as my second/ fun car.
The longer one is named Lada 2131. The permanent 4WD is great.
