Thought I would share my experience. SW customer service I think is fantastic and very quick turnaround after sending in rifle.
Background: Purchased late last year. DTW####. Took to range about 4 times -- shot federal bulk very well with occasional round standing up in mag after jamming and difficult to remove. Rem golden not so well but shot about 10 to 1 ratio so was not worried. At end of range session while finishing with a mag of rem golden had what seem like double fire with one trigger pull. Cleared chamber with charging handle and fired again. Empty cartridge stuck in barrel and crushed. Had to use flat edge of knife to pry out of barrel. Cleared again and did same thing. At time was done shooting anyway and went home not knowing what cause was.
Next time to range did every time. Dawned on me extractor was missing finally. Was my turn to send back to factory.
Timeline for those interested below. Can't wait to get back to range.
May 27, 2010 – Called Smith and Wesson, call tag ordered
June 2, 2010- Received shipping label with instructions in snail mail.
June 4, 2010- Shipped firearm via fed ex to Smith and Wesson in Springfield MA. Used original box turned inside out (works great), and included three 25rnd magazines. Included all mags since getting rounds stuck in mag before losing extractor / OOB rounds / crushed cartridges.
June 9, 2010 – Tracking number shows signed receipt by Smith and Wesson in Springfield.
June 18th, 2010 - Back from SW.
What was done?
Replaced springs as needed (yes they are blue)
Replaced mags (all three) with ones that have 25rnd on them. I can't tell difference between new and old visually.
Updated to current specs
New extractor has the knob I suspect prevents from losing again on the outside of bolt . Seems to be a bit behind the center circle in side of bolt though but perhaps is way should be. I should shoot first before starting to worry about all over again whether something wrong.
No free mag - but no worries. I was not expecting one, just happy to get rifle back. Customer service is very good and very quick turnaround.
Needs new cleaning and oiling for sure (very dirty) but will head to range asap.
Happy Father's Day to all.
