My old Timex Expedition just died, again.

I've replaced the battery a coupla times already and it's dead again. I think this time, I'll get a replacement watch.
I got it back when I worked in warehouses and factories. It was a good bang around watch.
It's starting to show it's age.

I have a Garmin gps watch. It's rechargeable and it'll last about a week per charge. If I use the gps, it lasts just about a day.
I figure I can use that until I get a replacement for the Timex. It's a bit too chunky for an everyday watch.

Since I don't work in factories and warehouses anymore.
I'm thinkin' of getting a Seiko 5 Sports Watch.

It's an old fashioned analog watch. Self winding, no battery, shock resistant and water resistant to 100 meters.
Since I don't need a bang around watch anymore, I figure I'll get something a bit nicer.
I've got it at the top of my Amazon.com list and if anyone asks me what I want for Christmas, I'll know where to direct them.

Watches are obsolete unless you consider them a decoration.

With a cell phone in your pocket why do you need a time piece on your wrist.

Anyone read newspapers anymore?

It's a lot easier to glance at my wrist than it is to pull out the cell...and a lot more discreet if you are talking to someone....and yes, I do read newspapers. It's hard to do the crossword on a tablet.

I had good luck with Seiko Quartz watches for years. My last Pro Diver lasted me 25 years, but I spent a lot on repairs and maintenance over the years. About two years ago it needed a full rebuild and I said no more. Spent $25 at Academy and have been happy with my little Casio. If something happens to it, I'll toss it and get another. Keeps perfect time too.

forget the new watch and buy a cell phone, a lot more useful and you can keep up with the forum when you take a break. watches are like hulu hoops = went out of style and usage years ago. You still drive a VW beetle?
I've never been in style, why start now?
I'd like to have a VW Beetle. No computer control, the only electronics are in the radio.
Just simple transportation.

My watches never need batteries, I just wind them up. I own a bunch of watches, and none are battery powered. Most days I wear a '60s vintage Benrus, or a early '90s Hamilton wrist watch. If I have to take something out of my pocket to check the time it'll be one of my pocket watches. I'm giving myself a 1901 Waltham 7 jewel hunter case for Christmas.

Yes, I am a dinosaur. Heck, I still carry a revolver for work too.

By the way, I hear good things about those Seiko's. Classic style, automatic, everything you need in a good every day watch.

The Seiko 5 is a great choice for a mechanical auto-winder that won't cost you your life savings. The 7S26 movement is very robust, it's the same one that's used in a number of their very tough dive watches. I have more than a couple of the Seiko auto-winders, only one which has been worn a LOT shows any signs of needing a COA (clean, oil, & adjust for you non-watchmakers) after 10 years.

If I totally ruin or lose one, I won't cry too much, not like it was a Rolex, Omega, or one of my vintage Heuers.

These are maybe 8 years old. I like choices :)

I have a 90 year old Elgin pocket watch that I wear when I go out. I use a Citizen Ecodrive watch every day at work. I read the newspaper every morning with breakfast. I prefer a good old fashion book to reading from a tablet or computer.

Take a good look around your house and take note of everything else that's on it's last leg.It will give you some idea of when you can expect to be able to buy that semi you wanted. :(

You cant beat a Seiko self wind watch, I have a Titanium Seiko, I only touch it twice a year, when we turn the clocks.

You guys are all rich. I haven't had a wrist watch in over 30 years. I don't care. Before I retired, if I needed to be somewhere, there were people telling me. I had a clock on my desk, another in the jeep, and one in my bedroom. These days I don't go on other peoples times. My wife's near by and telling me what to do, and when to do it. I have no penalty for being late, but I'm always on time, usually a little early. Unlike the slaves who rush all over, being tied to the time.

I eat when I'm hungry. I sleep when I feel like it. I get up late, and don't care. I take naps without regard to the time.

My Father had a self winding watch in his later years. It kept going dead because he didn't move enough. He had to remember to shake it a bit every day.
In his defense, he was handicapped.

When I was still working, I'd wear the cheapest thing Wal-Mart had because I regularly beat the dickens out of 'em. I remember when they were $2. By the time I retired the darned things were up to $10!

I now wear a $30 Timex. Its one of the most expensive watches I've ever had and keeps perfect time. :D

Snubby, I have a Timex Expedition that I wear 24/7. Actually have 2 of them. They have both been below 100' while diving. Oldest is 15 (?) yrs old. What I found on the oldest one, was that the wallyworld battery didn't last but a couple of weeks. Found a new watch just like the old one and bought it. When the newest watch depleted the juice in the battery I looked at Amazon and found a pile of them for a few dollars. Brought the newest one back up and decided that since I had the spare batteries I would put one in the old one. It came up and has been working fine. Just checked it since it is in the desk drawer (a yr+) and it says exactly the same time as the one I wear every day. Larry

Its much better to pay the monthly fee to carry a phone you don't want to use and frequently leave at home because people bother you if you carry it. Very few people are so important that they need to be plugged in all the time.

Watches are the single largest item collected around the world. The larger international forums have member counts into the millions.Watches are only obsolete to the younger crowd who never look away from their smart phone. In the business world,a good pair of shoes and an expensive Swiss watch is still the universal statement of success.
