Well my wife has always wanted a sailboat. About 10 yrs ago we got a small day sailor and I took lessons. It didn't have a motor or any place to get out of the sun so it turned out it was not a lot of fun for us.

Fast forward to this summer. She got the fever again and we started looking for a little larger boat. We looked at a couple and even tried to take one out but it kept having small to large issues, so the fever cooled off. Mid December lo and behold she found one at a local marina that was nice and ready to go. The marina is 10 miles from our house and is located on Lake Guntersville. So we made the jump.

The 'Evita' is a '87 Catalina 25. It has a 7.5 hp Honda 4 stroke that purrs like a kitten. We have spent some time updating the inside and getting the electrical topped out. Shore power is available at the marina and she now has a nice lithium battery and inverter set up for off the pier. She will sleep 4-5, and has a separate head. All the rigging is in great condition. She is set up with a swing keel and came with a nice trailer should we decide to travel to the gulf. My buddy and I took her out yesterday although we had very little wind. We are planning on taking her out again tomorrow for my wife's first trip. Hopefully this will be our little weekend get away vessel, whether spending the night at the marina or ideally anchored out among the islands.

Tim

Having grown up on Lake Erie and Upper Niagara River I've boated most of my life. My uncle used to race J24s ( I think that the class) in a club from the Buffalo Yacht club. He also had a much larger sailboat he kept at Point Abino in Ontario Canada, which was just over border. I remember going out with him and thinking this is A LOT of work. But when you got way offshore it was pretty neat going fast with no engine noise.

My earliest recollection in life was at age 4, wearing a Mae West life jacket and sitting next to Grandpa with his hand on mine holding onto the tiller.

I built my first boat at age 19, even before I owned my own car. My first date with my wife was at Strawberry Island (upper Niagara River), and my kids spent Summers there while still in diapers. I guess boating runs in my blood.

Congratulations on your purchase. I'm sure many happy memories will follow.

Two important things for new sailboat Captains.
1. Watch Captain Ron
2. If you cross into Florida waters, it's illegal to be
moving forward without fishing lines in the water.
Towing a water skier will keep you from getting a ticket.
3. Running before a storm gets you there quicker. :D

As Roy and Dale sang:
Happy sails to you.

I love sailing....

Good for you. Getting around just on wind power is amazingly good for your soul. I've wanted a boat, but having hobbies like shooting negated that. But I took the opportunity to sail whenever I could.

I have always admired sail boats. Really beautiful on the water. I was pretty sure I wanted one. when I finally got a chance to try my hand at sailing I discovered something that really surprised me....My boat wants a motor. I love boating and being out on the open ocean on somebody else's sailboat. I just don't care for running a sail boat myself.

That is my thought exactly! Nothing more fun than a weekend boating! Enjoy!

tt66, years ago, a good friend of mine took me out on his sailboat, I don't know what kind it was but it looked to be about the same size and type as yours.
I really enjoyed sailing around in near silence, it was a such a nice experience.

Best of luck with your new sailboat and I hope that she gives you both many years of enjoyment.

I have a friend that lived on a sailboat about that size for 3 years.
