My wife has always wanted one.... a Sailboat ! updated post 38

I'm curious, what is your tow vehicle? Is it strong enough? Like to know just in case I get that itch again. Boat and trailer w/gear probably about 2500 to 3000 lbs maybe?

The tow vehicle is a Chevrolet 2500 4x4, so it is good. The boat is actually closer to 4500 plus the weight of the trailer. I think the swing keel itself is 1500-1800pds. A Catalina 22 comes in at the 2500pd range.

Edit to add. I really don't intend on trailering the boat much, but when we were looking, I wasn't interested in one without a trailer. If I were planning on towing one regularly, I would recommend the Catalina 22.

I think a 25' yacht is nearer 4000 lbs. The 24' Trident in the UK displaced all of that. Mind you, they are known to be overbuilt and have crossed the Atlantic.

Catalina 25' specs:
Will give the present owner some tips about the
electrical deck fitting later.
Cape Dory Typhoon is a fun boat.
Alberg design.

My kids are 4th generation sailboat racers. I began racing at 10 and have raced an Inland C Scow for over 35 years. I had probably my best racing season last year.

My grandfather had a sleek racing sloop made in Norway. He sailed it with my parents as crew from his home in Biloxi Mississippi to a regatta at the Southern Yacht Club on Lake Pontchartrain. My grandmother drove as ground support. They won the regatta and my dad is in the bathroom after and hears guys talking: "Who won the regatta?" "Some ******* from Biloxi" They see my dad and ask who he raced with, he says: "The ******* from Biloxi"

My brothers trailered a Catalina 22 from Missouri to Lake Superior and sailed it across the first night in fairly heavy winds. One of my brothers raced at the US Merchant Marine Academy.

Congrats on the Cat 25. What lake?

A friend who owned a fair size sailing boat once told me the second happiest day of his life was when he bought it. The happiest day of his life was when he sold it. :D

My family has owned boats since probably the 1920's and this adage doesn't really apply to us. Probably between me and two brothers we might own 20 boats including paddlecraft.

Lake Guntersville is on the Tennessee River in Guntersville AL, in the North Central part of the the state. The lake is known for its bass fishing but it also offers the best area in North Alabama for sailing. Our marina is the North Alabama Sailing Marina. As newby's, everyone that we have met have been very supportive. The Browns Creek Sailing Association is based out of there. They are a strong group that offers many different sailing opportunities. They have a monthly social that varies depending on the weather. Their spring racing series is about to start, lots of activities for kids or us adults. We will be more interested in the cruises and local overnight trips. There are several coves and islands to drop anchor for the day or night.

It is a beautiful lake and a we are fortunate to live 15 mins away.
