A little while ago, I got a call from the Director of Nursing at the nursing home where Ruthie works. At first I though something might be wrong but she blurted out; "Rusty, our little Ruthie is an Angel."
I'm all ears now. She told me that at the beginning of her shift, Ruthie went in to start by checking on one of her favorite residents, George. George is a sweet, gentle 92 yo USAF vet. They were chatting when Ruthie noticed some, ever so slight, eye and lip tics. She hurriedly hit the alarm and started checking vitals. The response team rushed in and the Dr declared he was having a stroke.
They intubated him and started an IV with whatever stroke drugs they use and transported him to the hospital nearby.
George is now stable and doing fine. The DON told me that she believes that Ruthie's knowledge of stroke signals and her quick action saved his life or at least averted the damage that usually goes with it. Either way, the entire staff and the residents are heaping praise on her.
She texted me saying that she is overwhelmed with humility and joy both for her and George. She also said that she is convinced that this was affirmation of path He put her on.
I, and my family, are so consumed with pride and love that we are telling everyone we know.
That's my girl.
I think I'll keep her.
Thanks for letting me gush
