These recently came to me out of curiosity of what they said. They are for an N frame but I put them on a K frame for mock up since I don't own an N frame.

It says on the inside who made them, but it is very hard to read what it says. I even put it under a loupe and put a picture into Photoshop to make a negative. I still cant read what it says.
They are very influenced by Lew Sanderson in shape with the straight up and down front strap and high tuck behind the trigger guard.
If anyone Recognizes them, please let me know what they are.

I love that design. This is what the writing looks like to me, my best guess. X is unknown.

Fun find! I enjoy a mystery.

When I did the reverse negative, I think it could be Portland Me and it could be 4701 or 4707 Johnson maybe

I looked all over Portland ME, and they have never gone to address blocks by hundreds. Their houses are simply numbered in sequence - 17, 23, 44, 56 etc Main St. instead of 1000 block, 2000 block etc.
The street name looks like Johnson to me.
OTOH, I could not find anything fitting in Portland OR either.
Are there other Portlands around?

* Looks like a typical phone number before they simplified and replaced the first 2/ or 3 letters with the real numbers. I remember learning my home number as FI2-4559 as a kid. I think the FI was from Fillmore. They transitioned to 342- when I was about 9 IIRC.

That sure makes sense - plus it likely matches the era of the stocks. Good thinking outside the box! Now I recall making a friend in very early gradeschool and telling him my phone number as "GE2..." he gave me this weird look and said his number began "432". At home Mom explained that they were the same. I reckon my parents were more old-school than his lol. Thanks for the memory.

Added - went to Wikipedia under "Telephone Exchange Names" and the chart lists SU as representing 78 (spoken as "sunset" to the 1950's AT&T operator). That number would be the switching system that that particular phone was connected to. Interesting!

Clearly that's Portland Oregon. "ORE" was the three letter abbreviation before the Postal Service switched to a two letter system. I got nothin' on the rest of it...

Very handsome pair of stocks, I like them!
I have a set of K frame that are very similar. No markings on the inside of mine at all.
