A buddy who owns a local gunshop has a little museum display case in the store. This device has been in it for years, and he can't remember how or from whom he got it, and has no idea what it is. I offered to try and find out.
There are no marks on it of any kind. The Weaver ring looks like it would require some disassembly of the device in order to remove it from the tube. With the Weaver ring slide aside there are no marks of any kind under it that would be obscured.
My guess is that it was for intial laying/rough-siting of a weapons system, and is actually part of a more complex targeting device. As can be seen it has an open post-and-barleycorn arrangement on one side, and a rectangular peep sight on another. Looking through it, there is a rectangular pattern of several crosshairs that was difficult to photograph.
Any ideas?
