I picked these J frame stocks up on ebay a few months ago not because I needed them but that it looked like the same person/people had a part in making them as the Fitz K frame wood stocks in pics 3 and 4. The J set is not marked Fitz but the checking , separation to smooth and edges are exactly like the Fitz. Anyone seen stocks like these?

Those Fitz are the best, I've seen 3 pairs like that in the past. They are a real treasure. Most of his were thumb rest.

Love this thread and I’m glad to see that it’s been resurrected!

I bought a beat model 10 just for these stocks and the maker is unknown. I’m not sure whether I want to get them restored or find a cosmetically challenge pre war K frame target to put them out.

Those are glorious, leave them be. You can't duplicate honest wear like that. Just find the right gun to put them on, you will be glad when you pair them up.

There's nothing better then having a kind of messed up but charming gun, paired with kind of messed up but charming grips. The problem is that so often you end up with terrible grips on an otherwise charming gun...

For example:

this gun has king parts, but king didn't do a thing to it. The stocks were given to me as a gift, no idea who made them, they look kind of good, and kind of weird, but together? Glorious.

Maybe , they seem similar but there seems to be a few differences. The Herrets that I own are like new and the checking isn't near as sharp as my set of Js here. Wish they had a pic of the Detective grips on a J.

Here's another mystery: found these on eBay awhile ago listed as Herrett's grips. And sure enough, when I received them there was indeed one of those small paper stickers, loose and not affixed, inside the grips reading "A Genuine Herrett's..." but no model number. There are no jig marks or any other clues present on the backsides of the panels. The panels are flat with no palm swell, quite thin and the screw hole is through, not blind.

Clearly an LAPD-style combat grip shape of the type Hurst/Stark/Farrant/etc. produced, has anyone ever seen anything like these from Herrett's? Perhaps a custom order? The plain walnut wood, screw and escutcheons resemble Herrett's work, but still I'm not sure.

Concur on the Herrett Detective. To me, most of the new Herrett stocks look just a bit different than the old ones. Here's a closed back set on a J frame.

Linde has grips like your Fitz and will go crazy over yours. Rare.

I see it now , agreed on Herretts . The Fitz are hard to come by. These came on my 50 K22. The only others I've been able to find info on were on this forum but after the photobucket debacle the pics of those grips are gone from here. Wish I would have saved them.

How about these? They're Herrett's but what is the animal? You can see the work is signed "JC" at lower right:

I think some of these might be older Hogues:

Here's a nice target grip for a Colt I/E marked "Blake":

And these Joe Dircks grips for a Colt are a recent find. SG-688 did some digging and was able to find out Mr. Dircks was an LAPD academy instuctor back in the 1950s-60s and one of their top shooters back then. The grips are made of the same bakelite-type material as Murad Pointer target grips from the same area and era. That's about all we know about them so far.

I would agree . . . particularly the bottom center and far right based on the distinctive "ear" on the right panel. The inletting would be the clincher.

I'd agree with Russ here, also that 2 is something I have seen on other early hogues (grease pencil numbers in that handwriting).

I was just thinking about them the other day. Hope you have them on something as they are pretty unique to look at. I really thought they were N frames when I saw these.

Thanks for re posting. Interesting that all three pairs have unique patterns. I love the feel of mine and continue to take them to the range. I guess we are in the ultra exclusive Fitz-no-thumb-rest-wood-stocks club.Wish there were more out there because my Ks fit my hand perfect.

I've picked up a few mystery sets recently.

These are pre-war N Frame. They fit my OD and TLT great but definitely not post-war N Frames.

I bought this mirror image set on a whim. They had a very vague listing and no interior shots, though they did state both are N Frame so we'll see. They should arrive this weekend.

These were bought today, so I don't have them yet. No jig marks that I could find but the checkering looks good and I like the ribbon up the left side but with wrap-around checkering otherwise. No info on what they fit so we'll see when they arrive.
