Got the bug to put a Reddot on my 629. Looking for advice on best Picatinny mount base. Any does or don't, I would think it's a pretty straight forward mount up.

You didn't mention what 629 model you have? The later ones (rounded front edge of the rear sight leaf) have a drilled/tapped top strap so super easy to put on an optic mount. Older models, doable but not so easy.
I have a 629-5, Top Strap Drilled and tapped at factory.
Not a picatinny rail but a very nice installation EGW mount. replaces the rear sight. Mine is set up with Fastfire Red Dot.
