If having a choice to pick between two identical revolvers with only the SB and RB grip being the difference, which would be preferred?

Might be fun to run a poll on this question. I have thick hands and find the round butt points a bit better. Round is easily converted to square with different grips anyway. Square butts require metal work to convert and that isn't always convenient.

I love N frames, but I own only square butts. I don't care for round butts in N or K frames. It is really up to you as the shooter.

+1 I find that Square Butt N Frames fit my hands perfectly, but you need to play with a few and hopefully shoot a couple to be sure, we are all different......

My hands only like the Round Butt on is the short barrel J Frames. The three inch 36 that I held in my hand felt much better with the Square Butt grip than it did with a Round Butt grip. And while you may be able to use a Round to Square Conversion Grip these days, I still prefer to buy Square Butt guns when I can. But it of course comes down to what feels better in your hand.

I don't have large hands, and the usual cast of stocks, especially targets and combats, are all too large. I do prefer RB for carry purposes.

I finally found Ahrends, and they fit. I have several sets, and the SB design is perfect.

I think that Kim Ahrends must have sneaked into my home and took a gracing of my right hand while I slept. :D :D :D

k-frame round butt, n-frame square. my n frames are big bore and need a bigger grip. love the round butt on my smaller guns. many will say the round is awful to shoot, but they conceal better. cant really hide my 57 so good... so it wears a set of mustang finger groove combats. j's have the ahrends finger grooves.

I have all square butt N, I , and K frames except my 610. It has a round grip. I tried to put the rd to sq coversion grip on the 610 but it look wierd to my eyes. It wears the rubber grips and shoots very nice that way.

While a rb can be a sb with the right grips my preference really depends
On barrel length .
Under 3.5 " barrel lengths I prefer the rb, on 4" and greater barrels I prefer the sb grip frame.

No way, he sneaked into my house and traced my hand!!! :p

I love the look of original S&W Targets but I have to agree they are way to fat for my hands. Ahrends Retro Targets are amazing though. I haven't tried an Ahrends yet that didn't feel and function great! :D

Rd. Butt/Sq. Butt

The round butt is more flexible. You can use the S&W X-frame round to square grip; if your hand is large enuf. If that won't work for you, get one of each.:D
