This young man contends that gun grabbers have a Blueprint that will enable them to take control of and dismantle the N.R.A.?
If you have time, (7 minutes & 31 seconds) please watch this and give your thoughts. Is this possible?

And then what? The NRA is not the only organization, and even though large, it still represents only a small portion of gun owners.

As far as I know the N.R.A. is the largest lobby in D.C. that watches out for the second amendment.
I would like to see the actual statistics that show how many gun owners there are compared to N.R.A. members?
Also as this guy points out, many non NRA members look to the N.R.A. for report cards on various politicians in their area. What would happen if the NRA suddenly endorsed Bloomberg for president? How many low information voters might blindly take that advice?
Yes folks, we must be aware of counter tactics as well. ;)

He is correct - technically. Only a small portion of the members are voting to elect the BOD - as it presently stands. Mainly because so much of the membership is OK with the status quo and the direction of the organization.

HOWEVER, how many of our 5 million members would sit on the sidelines if they thought there was even a snowball's chance of an anti-gun candidate getting elected to the BOD? I think it is pretty safe to say that our own grass-roots organization would turn out the vote to soundly trounce them.

I'd love to see Bloomberg and his organization try. They'd expend a pretty healthy portion of their war chest on the effort and accomplish nothing except to boost our total membership numbers.

Estimates are 50-65 million households have guns, and approximately 100 million individuals own guns. Yet there are only 5 million NRA members.

The fly in their ointment would be that if the anti-gunners ever were to take a run at taking us over, the present NRA leadership would be able to use the organizations communications ability to rally the pro-gun membership to turn out in greater numbers. I think it's pretty safe to say that a LOT more members would vote if Wayne LaPierre (sp?) and Chris Cox used the organization's communications channels to point out that there was an anti-gun candidate up for election to the BOD.

Thank you BC38! When I hit the like button, I really meant it, and I sincerely hope you are right.
In these times I wouldn't put anything past the opposition.

They might try it.
It is the best way they could defeat the NRA.

BOD candidates are nominated by the nominating committee and by petition.
So, we'd be safe for awhile on the committee, but in jeopardy from petitions.

If someone has time, please check on what is now required to be a voting member.
I've been a Life Member since 78, so I don't remember exactly, but formerly, annual members did not get to vote. I think a 3 year or 5 yr membership was required?????

You either need to be a Life Member (or above) or have held another form of membership for 5 consecutive years.

The anti-2A groups never sit back and rest; they are constantly working in whatever way they can to unravel what they don't like. I don't doubt that they have schemed of a takeover of the NRA Board of Directors, but electing likeminded politicians has seemingly been their strong suit to date and they are all too effective at that game. Of course with people like billionaire George Soros behind much of this mischief, who know what or who can be bought.

What rankles me the most about this issue is the number of firearms owners who do not belong to any 2A advocacy groups. One will never know how they vote in elections, if they do vote, but their numbers and dollars added to the ranks and coffers of the gun rights support groups would be invaluable.

A hostile takeover is done by buying shares. They (anti 2As)have the money to do it.
Their intentions are guarenteed, the inclinations of all the gun owners in America (non members) are not reliable, and easily swayed by media, which is anti 2A in most every aspect.

Yeah, that's one of my pet peeves as well. I was a member of G.O.A., which is in my opinion a good group too.
I might re up with them again, and I still get emails from them.
I was also an annual member of the NRA concurrently while also being a life member. I let the annual go, but I'm thinking about upgrading to an endowment member.
I have certainly paid my dues over the years, so I can really relate to what you are saying.
I'm really hoping some of the younger, and older as well, can help pick up the slack.
So listen up all you guys n gals that enjoy the freedom that shooting and owning guns affords, get off your duffs now and help one of these groups out. Please? :)

. . . Estimates are 50-65 million households have guns, and approximately 100 million individuals own guns. . .

That is the lowest number out there as reported by NBC. The highest number comes from a good article on gun ownership from Bearing Arms. Debunking The "Declining Number Of Gun Owners" Lie - Bearing Arms - Gun Ownership, gun sales

BA claims 47% own guns, or about 150 million people. Another interesting number is that the average gun owner now owns 8 guns. My guess has always been that many people will not admit to owning a gun for a variety of reasons, so the 47% may even be low today.

5,000,000 sounds like a low number, but if you total all other gun rights organizations out there you will only find another 1,000,000 members. The second largest is Second Amendment Foundation with about 650,000.

The only way this works is if nobody in the NRA notices it happening. Try to keep a secret with 100,000 people that also involves $35,000,000. Sorry just can't see it getting that far. It would be squashed in some way before it could be effective.

It almost happened once before, back in the 1970s. A group of directors who were appeasers basically took control of the NRA, and attempted to change its entire focus from Second Amendment preservation to wildlife conservation and environmentalism, and move the NRA HQ out of Washington. There was essentially a revolt at the 1977 NRA Cincinnati annual meeting, and those guys were kicked out in what amounted to a Coup. Google "Revolt in Cincinnati" for the more complete story. It could easily happen again.
