Reading some of the backdated posts there was a mention of the Nagant. Here's a one from my collection. An officers model made for the Belgium Army. Notice the monogramme for Leopold II, the former King. These were made by the brothers [FONT=&quot]Emile and Leon Nagant. Double action and in superb condition.[/FONT]

Other than the Russian Nagant revolvers, which imo sacrificed precision for ease of manufacturing, the European Nagants from Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, et al are works of art. Just phenomenal machining and hand fitting. Most have every part serial numbered and matched.

Great revolver there. Beautiful.

I have its cousin, a Russian 1895 Nagant revolver made at the Tula arsenal in 1940. It has Finnish capture marks, and because of my study of Finnish history and the Winter War I bought it. I have some shells for it, so maybe I'll take it to my club's Great Wars Match.

Does your model have the free-wheeling cylinder?

Yes. This was the model (1878) that was the most expensive to make. These had 4 springs: sear spring, forward trigger spring, pawl spring & main spring. Later models (1883) had less springs and less flutes on the cylinder to keep costs down.

If you have one of the surplus Russian/Soviet Nagants shot it with surplus military ammo if you can obtain some. Much more oomph than commercial ammo.

I've had 2 Nagant revolvers in the past.

A Russian w/ Finn SA markings on it. That was in nice mechanical condition, just the metal finish worn as expected.

The other was a Swedish Nagant. An early one. Belgian mfgr & with the free-wheeling cylinder. It was Swede Navy marked as well.

They both flew away quickly into collectors hands but at great expense to them at the time!

Never shot either, but I was going to use some older 218Bee brass to make up some cases for the Swedish revolver.
Never got around to it though.

I have one of the Russian Target Nagants, in addition to a regular Tula one. Always leads to "what is that?" when I bring the Target model to the range. Dave_n

I have a refurb Soviet one made in 1944. And what's odd about it is it's an original single action only version. I know by that time almost all were being made in double action, but this one has the correct single action hammer and has never been messed with. They are an interesting piece of history.

I have a Russian Nagant revolver. It was a Christmas present from my best friend some years back. The whole package was about $79 back then.
I added an extra .32acp cylinder for, I think it was, $10.
It takes two men and a boy to pull the trigger in DA.
