Shame he's not a she... if so, you could have called her Lady(smith).
In my experience, dog names always change over time, becoming more informal and going high at the end (I'm told because dogs respond to high tones, and over time, you choose those nicknames they respond to). Thus, if you called him Remington, over time it would change to something like Remi or Remy (which may already have been suggested), which would not be bad, either.

He walked out of the woods right behind your house and you took him in? He's one lucky pooch and good-looking to boot. I'd forget the gun thing and go with Lucky. Someone 'round here might try and stick him with Bofors or Damascus or Krieghoff. Course you could go with Dan - or Danny - for Dan Wesson.

No idea for a name though.. that's always tough. My last dog was Waggs. With two "g"s... when we picked him up, my mom commented on how crazy his tail was wagging, and he became Waggs.
