Just got a copy of "Guns and Game" from 1964 from a new pal here locally.

In it is a very nice article on the new S&W 39-2. I didn't realize the pistol had qualified in military test trials. The authors of the article really put the gun through the wringer, mud and sand baths etc.

I wish I could just copy the article to post here but I don't want to step on any copyright toes.

I really loved the article since I just picked up a 39-2 posted by LDOGMILLER. It's a great shooter and finding the article was really sweet. I've had a 39-2 before and was missing it terribly so picking one up from LDOG was a real treat.

IIRC, S&W initiated the design of the Model 39 with the military specifically in mind.

But then at my age, there's a lot of things I no longer recall correctly. ;)

Big Daddy; filipows

Big . . . (without an objection to my use of your name's more familiar version) The M39 did play a role, albeit abbreviated - to the extent of secrecy being allowed to be more familiar. As and perhaps more importantly, the M59 was an outgrowth of the Navy's want of a handgun that could handle the rigors of warfare. Examples of what became the "Hushpuppy" are found in the SEALs museum in Fort Pierce, Florida.

filipows . . . I'll have something up later Friday to address the needs of those who wish to have a copy.

Later.
