I'd appreciate any general advice or education on the model 1076. I've been considering a 10mm but am not that familar with the 3rd generation S&Ws.

A 1076 recent came available from a local shop that handles lots of PD trade-ins. Gun and one mag only, no box, papers or tools. Gun is dirty but no apparent damage. Looks like just lots of holster lint and not cleaned recently. Price is $429 but might get it for a bit less.

Any thing I should look for while examining this model? I've seen the thread(s) on the trigger spring. I did notice it seemed a bit "gritty". Any other problem areas or concerns? Around $400 seems a pretty good deal to me. Yes/No?

Thanks for your input!

Yes! Great buy! A good cleaning and you will really enjoy that pistol.

I own two and I love them. They are built like a tank and cycle flawless. That is a real buy. They sell on GunBroker in the $550 to $1000 range. Worth a little more if they are the "FBI" model. They(FBI) will fire without the mag in the gun. I was amazed that the 10mm really does't have much more recoil than a 40 Cal S&W.

Get it!! The 10xx series are great guns, and somewhat hard to find (you just don't find them sitting around at every gun shop). That is an excellent price for a 1076. Even if you have to send it in for work you will end up with an excellent deal.

Thanks for everyone's input and encouragement.

Bought the gun this afternoon. Price was $400 even. Also picked up two boxes of American Eagle 10mm / 180 grain they had in stock. So, the whole package with sales tax and call in came to about $485.

Seller also noticed the gun was rather dusty. So while I went and had lunch, they sonic cleaned and lubed it for me. Nice people to do business with.

Gun is in the serial number range of TFS48xx. It has the "Caution, capable of firing without magazine." warning on slide, 90 degree checkering on trigger guard and front strap, three dot sites and came with the "AccuGuide" marked magazine with white follower.

Had to immediately go to the local range to try it out. This is my first 10mm. After hearing what an intense cartridge this is and that it was devolved into the S&W 40 since some people in LE couldn't handle it, I was surprised at how mild it was to shoot. Then again, I've also just learned that the American Eagle 180 grain ammo is about the mildest factory loading available in this cartridge.

Only fired 4 magazines on this first outing. First two to get a feel for the gun and tweak the sight adjustments. I then focused on accuracy and the second two mags produced a very gratifing interlocking pattern at 15 yards centered around the bullseye with a standing, two hand hold. Function as many of you predicted was flawless. Even recovered all my brass!

Very pleased with my first venture into the 10mm club. I usually try to buy guns that both interest me and are a good buy. I think I got a real bargin this time! Thanks again for your advice and encouragement!
