OP
This is a very good poll. First let me say everyone deserves at least one 1911. I currently own four. One RIA commander size, one Colt Gold Cup and 2 full sized Kimbers.
Trying to pick a favorite is hard to do. I trust and carry the RIA commander for CCW. I shoot the Kimbers most and like them. But when I open my gun safe to show off my collection to someone new I proudly grab the Colt first.
The Colt name is so well known and the history behind the company is undeniable. Is the Colt my favorite? Depends on the day.
Which would I recommend? Which ever one I happen to have in my hand when asked. JA

md... Have been carrying and shooting 1911s since the mid 1970s.. If you're looking for a range gun in a full size Government Model .45 take a look at the Colt Competition Model.
Can be had in blue or stainless, beavertail safety, dovetailed front sight, Novak adjustable rear sight, everything you need and nothing you don't.
I should have mentioned that since i live in marylandistan i don't ever expect to be able to legally CC. So that isn't a consideration and why i put full size.
Heck I had a gun shop on the Eastern Shore of Md for 27 years and I couldn't get a CC License...But if you are connected you can get a CC. I did have a CC license in Pennsylvania though. That is why I bought that weird Para Ordnance LDA shorty. Pretty gun...odd trigger
