Need a pair of nice wood target grips.

I finally took the plunge and bought my first revolver, got a 19-3 6" made in 1969 in very nice condition. Simply put I really dislike the magna grips, the taper is horrible for me. I plan on using the revolver for occasional bullseye shooting.

I've seen the Hogue hardwood grips with finger grooves, they seem to get good reviews.

I also stumbled on Eagle grips and they seem nicely made. I'm looking at these:


S&W Classic Combat K/L Frame Square Butt Rosewood Grips


Are there any others I should consider.

Finger groove stocks are not right for some people. I am 1 of them. Grooves vary by maker. Most don't fit me. I personally like Herrett target stocks. You can find them reasonable on ebay. Granted, these are round butt, squares are available. see added pictures of square. Bob

I recommend Herrett's Jordan Trooper Stocks. You draw an outline of
your shooting hand on paper and they make the stocks to exactly fit
your hand. Here is a picture of mine on my model 19.

Grips (stocks) are a very personal item.
Many of us who have been at this for a long time have boxes of grips that they've tried over the years.
You will get dozens of recommendations here. Every one of these is perfect - for the one who recommends it.
For the rest of us it's just a big MAYBE.

You can make the older Herrett's found on ebay much better looking by stripping and refinishing with either Tru-Poil or my choice, Formby's Tung Oil Finish (a wiping varnish). The Herrett's S&W grips are a bit small for my meat hooks, but I love their Ruger Blackhawk gips.

I was going to suggest Nills too. They are pricey, but not that much different from custom makers here in the states. It's better to pay slightly more and get something outstanding, than it is to pay less and get mediocre at best.

I always knew they were quality grips, but one can't fully understand until you actually get a pair. The quality is simply outstanding, and the fit is the best I have ever experienced. I have to actually remove my Nills by using a putty knife and rubber mallet because that's how tight a fit they are.

Not to mention that Nill grips are being designed from decades of research in competition shooting. So that's what they're made for. I got combat grips for combat shooting, and they are contoured for specifically that. Give a really great hold with natural pointing.

A company named Dominion Hobby is an authorized Nill distributor here in the states. They only stock certain models of grips but get shipments monthly from Germany and can order anything. Also, they sell the grips discounted by at least 5% if not more than ordering them directly from Nill yourself.
