Need a Reality check re: Classifieds....

Ok Trolley I'll take a stab at answering your question. First of all the
classifieds on the S&W forum usually see a few new listings each day.
This isn't even remotely close to being a large enough market to be
considered an indicator of much of anything. Nationally there indeed
might be some slowdown in all things that people don't actually have
to buy because of the holidays. People only have so much money to
spend and have to make choices, seasonal buying trends are normal.
You got your first gun in 2007, I got mine in 1958 and my first S&W
in 1966. I remember an earlier post of yours stating that you had
bought 40-50 handguns in six months. I think few on here buy at
your frenzied pace for their own "collection" You have churned your
guns to shed most non S&Ws. You seem to view building your S&W
"collection" with an urgent "git er done" mentality. This is not criticism
but just a possible reason for your feeling of a slow market overall.
New AR prices are falling no doubt. Maybe the companies overbuilt
when prices were high and have warehouses full now. Good for the
consumers that want one. I would guess that once your "collection"
is complete a few months of inactivity on your part will spur you to
action.

Living in California, I can't buy most of what's in the Classifieds.

I haven't noticed changes here because I get tormented by the offerings and the knowledge I can't buy them, so I rarely look.

When I do, I get tormented. So many really nice pieces... none of them for me.

I continue to look occasionally and will do so if only to appreciate such fine things.

The national "scare" has eased, and the market has reached saturation point. Look what happened to the stock market listings of both S&W and Ruger. S&W stock went from over $16 down to barely $9 over the last 4 months. Ruger's did proportionately the same, about a 35 to 40% drop. Too many guns manufactured and sitting in inventory. Article this morning on Fox news Colt may file bankruptcy, they have defaulted on a very large loan. Most new gun buying people have now obtained what they want, and have laid in a quantity of ammo to suit their perceived needs. Very few people are getting rid of guns. I looked at the RIA auction recently, about 5000 collector guns, and only about 80 were S&W's, but there were many high grade, engraved, inlaid very expensive shotguns and rifles. Are some of the high rollers beginning to divest themselves of high value firearms?

Sell all of your pristine hand ejectors now and avoid the crash. The hour is late.
And price them to sell.

You could be right. It is something to think about.

I have not sold a gun off this forum in well over a year. I believe my S&W 57 is still in the classifieds from over a month ago, but all I got from the ad was three P.M.'s telling me I was a horrible photographer, two low-ball offers, and a few trades for things other than what I had expressed interest in.

About every four to six weeks I get a P.M. from the same person wanting to buy my son's brushed nickel S&W 2214...a gun I do not own.

I enjoy browsing the classifieds because something unusual might pop up. I can't think of anything I want real bad, but then maybe I just haven't noticed it yet.

Wont get any more from me....got 2 of them now :)
