No power from March 28 until yesterday April 24, my generator died on April 2.
In a seven county area of N.E. Michigan we had thousands of power poles AKA telephone polls snapped in half, roads closed due to downed tree's, branches and power lines.

Hundred's of lineman and their truck's from many states showed up within a few days working long hours to get everyone's power back up.The two who fixed the lines for my road where from Wisconsin and Missouri.
Our orv/snowmobile trails are closed for the summer maybe fall also, cutting deep into the tourist trade.

I lost two freezers full of food including two hams for Easter dinner I could not host any way with no power.

To top all of that my youngest great-granddaughter turned 3 on April 1st and broke her leg on the 4th, she has to go in once a week to have the "old one" cut off, have her leg checked out and a new cast put on.

Good luck! We live in a area that also can get serious ice storms. Rather have a bad snowstorm season than ice.

I have not had to experience anything quite like that, thank goodness! I tell myself I should have a generator but I have failed to buy one. You have given me reason to reconsider. I hope this never happens to you again.

I had no idea your storm was that bad. Power is usually restored faster than that. I am very familiar, having worked multiple ice storms in my career. The longest storm I remember took about 3 weeks. One customer told us he had been through 2 generators. Another had a detached garage with only a electric overhead door. After a week he made a new walk-in door with a chain saw. We had an ice storm followed by 10 inches of blowing snow. It required chains on the truck and and digging all the down wire out of the ice and snow. I now have a Generac home generator but I wouldn't rely on it to run for weeks on end.

Shows how much bleating about other things is going on in the media. The only reason I know anything about the last two US ice storms is because my wife has Tik-Tok.

According to newspaper reports many linemen say it's worse than cat 5 hurricane damage they've worked on before.

They wont be done in this area for a long time yet, our Governor has requested President Trump declare seven counties including mine disaster areas.

If you have a backup generator--CHECK THE OIL OFTEN! I couldn't count the number of blown generators sitting on the curb after the 2004 hurricanes here, simply because folks didn't check the oil often.

I check the oil every day it's used when I shut it down to refuel it.
