Need a recommendation for pistol optics

I've used Aimpoints with a 1 minute red dot before. No magnification but it is a lot easier on these old eyes than trying to hold my sight picture any more!

I have this Burris Fastfire on my Ruger 22/45 and love it. Rugged, good quality optic but reasonably priced.

I have a 2.5x Thompson Center handgun scope with lighted reticle mounted on my Ruger Competition Target. I bought it used at a gun show. It is made in Japan and has pretty good optics. I have never been able to find out who made it for them. It is a pretty decent scope if you can find one.

A red dot would probably be better than a scope - its very easy to put a red dot in the middle of a black bullseye. And it will often be cheaper than a good scope.

UltraDot

I installed an UltraDot red dot on the Ruger Mk I Target and am very pleased with performance. Weight distribution is directly over the hand and aids steadiness.

The Burris FastFire is very light, and can be very cleanly mounted to a base that replaces the rear sight in the dovetail, at least for the Ruger. The Aimpoint Micro is very nice, but exceeds the price of the pistols.

IMO the Red Dot versus Handgun Scope answer depends on the distance you'll be shooting at. I've found that for me red dots work well out to about 40 yards, beyond that a good scope with a moderate amount of magnification really can't be beat.

I have a Tasco PDP2 Red Dot on mine now, Like it except it is on the heavy side. I have used a three power scope also. I think the Burris Fast Fire would be the way to go. Light weight and not top heavy

I'm looking for a recommendation for optics to install on my Ruger MKIII Target and Browning Buckmark Hunter. Both are used only for target shooting.

I recommend this

Mount it low. That is either a Ruger or Weigand base cut, Burris Zee rings in super low which are not available anymore. But regular Weaver lows are good.
